Every tow truck company that has a municipal contract has refused to haul away the Freedom Convoy trucks that have blocked city streets in the Canadian capital for the past two weeks, Ottawa City Manager Steve Kanellakos said Tuesday.

Ottawa declared a state of emergency over the protests on Sunday, with Mayor Jim Watson describing the truckers and their supporters as a threat to the “safety and security of residents.”

The state of emergency led to speculationthat Ottawa, and perhaps other city governments, might break up the protests by towing the trucks away.

Commentators with knowledge of the towing industry suggested its drivers might be reluctant to take action against their fellow truckers, and even if they did agree to haul away Freedom Convoy trucks, the process of towing big rigs is far more complex and time-consuming than towing private motor vehicles – especially if the truck driver does not cooperate….

This is truly great news. Yet another setback for the wannabe dictators. Tow truck drivers won’t betray their fellow truckers. I’m stunned that the government actually asked them to.

The funniest thing about this is Trudeau looking like a dick.
All they asked for was a meeting and Trudeau decided he had Covid and couldn't meet with them.
Then he came out and said he refuses to meet with the truckers because of their violence.

I don't really agree with them blocking off roads cuz that ain't cool but at the end of the day, people are going to start screaming at Trudeau for allowing this to happen.

Trudeau has refused to budge on federal Covid measures, even as provinces begin lifting their restrictions.

Alberta, Saskatchewan, Quebec and Prince Edward Island have all announced plans to lift most mitigation measures this month. Nova Scotia and New Brunswick are also easing some restrictions.

On Tuesday, Alberta Premier Jason Kenney said pandemic-related rules had "disrupted and even destroyed livelihoods" in the province.

Call the tow trucks in from the USA and give them triple their usual rate.
Clear those disruptive idiots out of there.

time to impound the trucks and confiscate them, give them back to the drivers in a couple years

we can't just let people park in the middle of the street for weeks on end, every time going forward there are political disagreements, the streets would be blocked for weeks

I think that ending the mandates is the right and proper thing to do.

Good luck with that. It costs about $2,000 to tow a big rig and that’s just towing it to a service center which usually isn’t that far away. And make charge of $8 per mile or so.

Not only is paying $6k per truck to tow it prohibitively expensive but it’s going to cost you even more to bring them in from the US. Not to mention any tow truck company that tows any of these trucks will be summarily black balled from towing any 18 wheeler ever again.

so that nice $500,000 - $1,000,000 tow truck big enough to tow a big rig will be worthless.

    good luck lol

It's true that times are changing.

Now, blocking an entire downtown area with trucks is an incredible demonstration of freedom.

Protest against Authoritarianism .. such as in Hong Kong -- or Tiananmen Square .. is indeed an incredible demonstration of freedom.

but,... as you say .. times are changing .. Canada don't put up with that no more .. heavy hand of the state come down on the protesters .. Gov't refuses to acknowledge the complaints against Tyranny ..

And now you know .. what freedom is about .. don't forget and turn back to the dark side.

The old saying is still correct: One's person freedom fighter is another person's terrorist. It just depends on which side you are on.

Here is another example of why the heads of distribution companies are going to go all in with AI and autonomous vehicles.

That isn't what the article actually says though. The towing contractors aren't refusing because they necessarily support the protest (after all, if they did, wouldn't they be there too?) but because they fear for the safety of their drivers if they tried to tow any of the protestors trucks and feared for future business from truckers. Unfortunately, they both sound like legitimate concerns to me.

Incidentally, who are the "dictators" here, the elected representatives implementing their policies or the small group of citizens demanding threatening endless massive disruption until their will is unconditionally implemented? If someone disagrees with the government, they can vote for someone else. If someone disagrees with the truckers, they can't do anything.

Someone who compares Canada with China cannot claim to know what authoritarianism is.

Not when people are advocating seizing their property and livelihood if they do not bend a knee to draconian government orders. That's very Authoritarian.

you have things backwards - . The one who does not recognise that Canada is acting like China is the one who cannot claim to know what authoritarianism is.
