you read that correctly, the parents have been advised that the student previously known as Adam is now to be called Jasmine.

IMO, this takes pushing the fantasy a little too far. If the boy likes to watch Disney movies and pretends to be princess Jasmine, then so be it.

But, he has a penis and someone needs to push him back into reality. What are we doing to these kids by not treating them and instead, encouraging the nonsense?

RAYTOWN, Mo. —Parents at a Raytown elementary school have received a letter notifying them that a student previously known as a boy will now be recognized as a girl.

Parents at a Raytown elementary school reacted to a letter from the school that a student who had previously been known as a boy now identifies as a girl.

The letter went out to parents who have students at Robinson Elementary School last Friday. It said that a male student who has been known as Adam has returned to school as a female with the new preferred name of Jasmine. The letter asked students and parents to treat everyone at school as they would want to be treated.

The district said it had no additional comment on the situation.

Some Kansas City-area experts in the area of transgender issues said having very young people raise questions about their gender may be rare, but it's not unheard of.

"This is not about who you want to be. This is what you are," said Caroline Gibbs, of the Transgender Institute. "This is a genetic, medical condition, hardwired. One is born with it."

"Gender identity is separate from sexual orientation," said Jessica Farmer, a counselor who works with gay and transgender youth. "They are two separate things. So if you ask a young person if they're male or female, they'll usually have an answer."

Farmer said very young people and their families who deal with these issues at an early age usually have fewer problems adjusting than those who deal with them later on.

Parents at the school said the age of the child was surprising.

"I am surprised it happened at the elementary level, yes I am. But, freedom, freedom," said Leon Morgan.

"I don't know what to think, honestly," said parent Leah Yzagguire. "I think it's kind of sad. I think they're a little small, but I really don't know. I just tell my kids to make sure you're nice to everybody.

Good for her. Let her live her life how she wants to. Who are we to judge what is best for her?

 

so how would you feel about a parent who took their homosexual kid for counseling to help go back to heterosexual? Would you be as supportive?

 

That is too young to determine sexual identity, they have to wait until he has puberty to find out if he wants to be transgender.

 

If the kid wanted to try it I'd be ok with it. Problem is most gay kids in "go straight" counseling do not want to.

 

The real problem is that "go straight counciling" is complete quackery.

If I want children to be who they are, why would I support a policy that makes it okay for children to lie to themselves about who they are?

No she's a girl. She was born a girl and you wouldn't know it by looking at her but she's been wanting to be herself for a long time. You'll find no explotation, and what you just said doesn't make any sense.

There are no credible mental heath practitioners practicing sexual orientation re-assignment. The parent has the right to take the child to a witch-doctor or exorcist.

 

My father would have deal with this kind of calamity in a very straightforward way, if you know what I mean... but than again, thru most of his life he was a blacksmith, a welder, a day laborer, unskilled in a liberal social ways... strange that our family was always strong and we've all grew up being a convinced conservatives

In this case, the parents are going with what the child feels. In your hypothetical case, the parents are trying to force onto the child something it does NOT feel. I'm supportive of tolerance, and not so supportive of coercion. Perhaps you don't see any difference between the two, but most people do.
