The US economy isn't better than when this president took office.
    It's worse.

    From The Media Research Center
Following President Obama’s speech on the economy on Thursday, the
PBS NewsHour offered a 48-second news brief on the subject, in which
co-anchor Gwen Ifill offered no opposing viewpoint to the President’s claim
in his speech that “by every measure, the country is better off than when he
    took office.”

I'm no Obama fan as everyone knows. But to say the economy is worse than when he took office, just isn't true.

Obviously you don't buy the groceries in your family. My food bill has more than DOUBLED in the last couple of years. Sure, the economy might be improving for those whose salaries have gone up... but for the millions of Americans who've seen their spendable income shrink by over $2,000... times are tough.

Depends on where you look for economic recovery. The rich have gotten richer under Obama's presidency. I'm sure they wish the rest of us would just suck it up and quit whining.

True, in a strict sense, when measuring the trough of the 2008 recession. That period lasted mere months, like all low points in past recessions, and shouldn't be used to make grand proclamations or measure today's economic vitality against.

    Cheers

Well I went to look up how many people were working when Obama came in office till now, knowing that more had to be working today, but maybe not as many full time, or making as much. I was willing to concede the other. But I was wrong. Not as many people are working today than when he came in office either. So I guess your right on all counts.

CNN Fact Check: Fewer People Now Working Than When Obama Took Office
The figure of 4.5 million jobs is accurate if you look at the most favorable period and category for the administration. But overall, there are still fewer people working now than when Obama took office at the height of the recession.

The economic collapse was still going when he took office. It took months to get things moving the other direction.

"Took office at the height of the recession" says it all.

If it was at it's height, it had to be with the most laid off, which is why I couldn't believe there isn't more working today than back then.

Not really. It takes some time for all of the negative effects to take hold. And then the ripple just keep on rippling, and on, and on, and .....

the only thing I fault Obama for is not addressing foreign outsourcing and foreign imports, I fault Bush for this, and with only two years to go, looks like Obama wont be either

the corps have their hands so far inside the foreign Pandora's box, that it's gonna hurt in the short term to remove it, but long term the benefits are great

maybe Clinton will handle it during her presidency....

It is a fact that the median income is down.

More people are employed now, but 13 million more entered the workforce.

I provided sources that showed the PBS report to be wrong. Personally I
believe the economy stinks. The semblance of a recovery is what would
naturally happen but his meddling put off the recovery.

Economic vitality? It doesn't exist nor has it for over 5 years.

Sure it should. It shows that important economic fields are worse than
when he took office. Things should be better. They aren't. This
president has done nothing to improve the economy.

Poverty is way up under Obama, so is despair.

99% of jobs created under Obama are low-wage ones and household income has dropped.

Obama broke the US economy and it ain't coming back.

Things aren't moving in the other (positive) direction. They are worse than
    when he took office.
Very true. It shows that this president can't get the economy moving even
    after the recession supposedly ended.

He's definitely a pathetic excuse of a president.

Tell me how you blame Bush for this when he wasn't even in office when NAFTA and Free Trade was passed? He got the blunt of both of them though.

You must also agree with his foreign policies and his immigration policies which are both a mess. And Obama has also signed more free trade agreements I guess you'll also blame on Bush.

    I just saw it. Thanks.

Also, musician gigs are way down. I've got one steady day per week. Far below
when he took office. They started to go down in 2008 (W) But I could count on
at least 3 for sure. Now it's bad and I'm a first call musician.

Yes, the percentage of people working is less because the workforce has increased by 13 million people and the jobs market hasn't kept pace. This is the weakest recovery in history, I believe.
