It has cooled down a bit. From the mid 90s to the mid 80s. Its lovely.
The mockingbird is up to 7 songs now...or 8...and Momma and Baby deer just stopped by the window. All is well.
    Have a blessed day all

How are the Ladies? Have you met up with them lately?

Btw, we had 2 Cowboy Churches pop up in the area, but I haven't seen anyone ride a horse yet.

Hiya Shang! Yeah, got together with the Divas a couple of weeks ago. Hot topic? The book I read on vacation... good one, esp for divas! Guilty Wives by James Patterson. Highly recommend. Good news about the Cowboy Churches... been to visit yet?

Come on over. We'll drink beers on the deck and Ill show you how everything you thought about yankees was true. Ahahahaha
    How you doin', Smartie?

Ok heres a Cafe Crew question. If you were going to stain a house and trim what color combination would you choose? Its solid stain so pick a color. Any color.

I cant make my mind up.

Barely gettin by, falena. Kinda like your cactus... sittin around, dryin up. LOL

What's 'stain a house' mean? Is that yankee for paint or are you actually staining the wood on a wood house? Like maple or walnut? That kinda stain??

    Signed,
    Confused

I tend to gravitate more toward darker colors(Greys through Olives). Of course, it's all contingent upon style of the home, it's surroundings, location and size.

I also personally like the transparents, although they do not offer the protection/longevity that you will get from the solids. Typically needing reapplication every 5 years in order to maintain protection and original desired appearance. And, if the home has previously had a solid used on it, the transparents are effectively useless, unless someone plans on spending extensive work in bringing back the wood grain. Rarely worth the cost and effort.

Solids are certainly preferred if you guys are looking at extending the duration of protection, and minimizing maintenance.

I also have a preferred line of products I've used exclusively on my projects, but rather not post it here. No need to advertise. lol

Good luck with the project. I'm sure it will look good, whatever you decide.

...do you guys have issues with carpenter bees? Just curious.

Im smiling about this. My Honey wants grey.
This has been an ongoing discussion. We cant even agree with dark or light shades. I wanted a pastel shade to make the house look alive. A light color with two accent colors for the trim, doors and shutters. My Honey likes the dark shades which remind me of the Munsters. Unleash the bats and put an old woman in the second floor window peaking out behind a curtain to scare neighborhood children.

The house is solid stained already and we will be using the same product we used last time. It held up well and went on easy.

That's two greys. Im gonna check out the olive. Green is my favorite color and I was thinking a pastel green. Im gonna meet in the middle in the end. My Honey just doesnt know that yet. lol

You may need to sprinkle some cinnamon on yourself. It worked on the cactus. lol
Sounds like you need a vacation.

They make solid stains almost like paint now. Except it sinks in the wood. Not like paint. We have a solid stain on the house now and I dont wanna use paint because peeling paint down the line will be a nightmare.

    My neighbors would be thrilled.
Its funny. I told a few neighbors we were thinking of changing the color of the house and you could see the fear in their eyes. Ahahahaha

One of my favorite colors (again depending upon the specific house), is a now discontinued color by Sherwin Williams. It was originally called Greylock.

But, to the mix I would order an addition 6 ounces (per gallon) of black pigment. It made for a beautiful medium dark greenish/olive color.

I haven't used it on a project in the past couple years, but I do know it can still be mixed. They just don't have it as a displayed color any longer.

*Just to note*.... This was/is in a paint, not a stain.

Sherwin Williams had a great little interactive color tool on their site, that might help give you guys a general idea of the appearence of different colors (body/trim) together. ;)

I will check it out. Thanks. You just had to say grey. lmao
We normally use Benjamin Moore paint and Cabot solid stain when we paint or stain. Ive never used Sherwin Williams.

My goal is to whip this house into shape. New stain and new landscaping for now. We lost trees with all the storms and it tore up the front yard but thankfully when the tree in the front landed on the house it crushed the shrubs I been banging the drum to get rid of. First thing I noticed aside from a huge tree on the house...the shrubs were destroyed. Mother Nature was listening to my prayers. lol

    lol

Something to keep in mind, as I'm sure you guys are already aware (speaking of neighborhoods). Many HOA's guidelines and/or City ordinances may come into play when choosing colors. Obviously, that is not the case in every area or neighborhood. More often the case in Historical Districts.

Also, if it's your personal home, where you plan to reside for a good period of time, choose whatever suits your taste. But, if it's an investment property that you plan to turn, you'll get a better return if you stay within the general color range of neighboring homes.

In a situation like that, you can add a sample of your unique personality through subtle accents and plantings. ;)

You guys gave me an idea.
Im gonna get some outragiously inappropriate color samples, show my neighbors them and say these are the colors we were thinking of staining the house. Im gonna say it super serious. Then ask them what they think. lol
