Philosophers have life, and Christians have death? so says Epicurus philosophers have calmness, humor and satisfaction
Philosophers live for today. Christians put off living for a promised (but unproven) eternity after death.
Followers of God live as do Philosophers. But by the visitation and intercession of his spirit, to find that ones true life is in God rather than in oneself or in ones life alone, is more than an unproven promise or words on paper. It is eternity now as the living God is eternal. The mistake that observers of these sayings make is in thinking that it is a matter of belief or concept alone, as if it were something vain, shallow, and self serving. And that there is no real God, and that we merely pretend or imagine him. But such are the reckonings of the lost, who find life in themselves and in their lives alone. They don't account for the intercession of the living God.
"Eat, Drink and be Merry for tomorrow we die". It's been around forever. Christians avoid the distractions and understand the Purpose for Living" that many do not understand. Sure it comes through faith, but not faith in things that so many have.
