Don't confuse the catholic church or the holy Roman empire with "Christianity". You can look at the first 300 years of Christianity following Jesus death, to see the application of the doctrine. Christianity encircled the entire Med. Sea, persecuted every step of the way by the governing authorities. Winning converts simply by preaching the gospel. The Romans then glommed on to Christianity and made it theirs, because the majority of their people already had. Used it to justify their divine authority to rule over the people, when in fact, nothing in the bible justified such authority.

In contrast to Islam in the first 300 years following Muhammads death to see the application of their doctrine. Their first move was to wage the wars of Apostasy against the Muslim tribes who stopped paying zakat to Mecca after Muhammad died. Then within 80 years of his death they were waging violent jihad as far west as Spain and Afghanistan to the east.

632 through the 1920s, Islamic caliphates applying Islamic doctrine as law were according the written Islamic doctrine of the Koran and hadiths. The rule of the Catholic Church, the holy roman empire was according to church doctrine with no justification in the bible. Bibles were in Latin, the people couldn't read anyway. It took the invention of the printing press, the spread of literacy, widespread translation and publication of the bible, the protestant reformation to demonstrate the illegitimacy of the divine rule of monarchs or emperors, and return Christianity to that written in the bible instead of made up by the clergy.

IN CONTRAST to Islam's doctrine, the likes of ISIS and Al Qaeda can use to demonstrate the illegitimacy of any government other than the Islamic Caliphate, as they existed from 632 until the 1920s. And more specifically for this current Sunni fundamentalist strain, the first 4 Rashidun Caliphates, the "Rightly Guided" caliphs are to be emulated.

The reasons behind the conversions of criminals in prisons can be several ones.

Putting a part who was religious in the past, then lost the faith becoming criminal and finding it again in prison [that's not a conversion but a return] ...

    * Sense of guilty and will of expiation [and this category makes the choice of the religion more near to one's feelings]

    * Need for sense of membership and social acceptance [religions give this and usually it works

    * Social antagonism. This is the motivation which is most interesting about conversions to Islam [and it was already present in the past, overall in some sectors of American population]. Islam can be seen as a system of social antagonism which could help minorities to gain something [in particular political weight].

And this would also mean that it's a fashion, more than a matter of spirituality, it's a cultural / social question.

Yes I read it. If the twits would have gotten a structured fulfilling life at home, then looking for some kool aid klutz to follow or mindless teachings of hate wouldn't be an option would it?

apparently you are ignorant of the statistics for "structure fulfilling family life in America" as you are of Islam.

    Who'da thunk?

Most have voted for the alignment of violent tendencies of convicts with the violent decrees of the muslim god who the extremists (and others) refer to as "allah".

I can agree with this assessment.

Yeah, "love your enemy" and "turn your other cheek" to him when he strikes you, may not be the most conducive doctrine to staying alive in prison.

Yes, and Islam's innate violence is therefore an ideal religion for the convict scumbags to wholeheartedly embrace.

Yet more convict find the Christian God than they do the Islamic but we only want to focus on people finding hope through the other religion we hate because after all we want to use it to attack it and those that embrace it. Not very Christian in my opinion.

    - - - Updated - - -

Are they still convict scumbags when they embrace Christianity?

Nah, I think its because Muslim converts have gone on to support violent jihad against us while Christian converts seem to smile alot and feel compelled to help the needy. Because the *******ned Islamic chaplain of New York State Prisons praised the 9/11 attacks while Christians were universally apalled. Because Islam preaches violence and hate of unbelievers, while Christianity preaches peace and love of all mankind.

36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” .

    In contrast to Islam-

Volume 1, Book 2, Number 26: Narrated Abu Huraira*)
Allah's Apostle was asked, "What is the best deed?" He replied, "To believe in Allah and His Apostle (Muhammad). The questioner then asked, "What is the next (in goodness)? He replied, "To participate in Jihad (religious fighting) in Allah's Cause."

Why are the first 300 years relevant and not the rest? Christianity was extremely violent. Protestants and Catholics killed each other. Jews fled all over the place. Crusades. Spanish Inquisition applied in Latin America. You really do not become the prominent religion in the world by only sweet sweet words.

It's not the doctrine of Islam, so say the main muslim scholars. That is like saying the Christian doctrine like the KKK.

No one claimed the rest wasn't relevant, and I only excluded the Holy Roman Empire and the Catholic Church who didn't adhere to the doctrine of the bible. They made up their own doctrine. The first 300 years after Christs death best exemplify the application of Christian doctrine. It had nothing to do with government and the authority to govern.

No, Christians were violent. "Christianity", the doctrine of the bible, is what it is, whether people are following it or not. Here in central Texas, back in the 90s, a guy named David Koresh declared he was Jesus Christ and called on his followers to amass a stockpile of automatic weapons to fight against the forces of evil. I don't blame Christianity for what happened to the Brand Davidians. Their actions have no justification in the Christian Doctrine of the bible, They made up their own rules, like the Roman Empire.

Actually they use exact quotes from that doctrine. It is what it is.

You're just cherry picking the lovely parts of Christianity and compare it to ISIS as if that is a just comparison. It's an absolute joke.

Still are. The biggest armies are from Christian/Judean west. They also make the most weapons. By far.

They used the bible to massacre around, just like they did during the Spanish inquisition. Just like they did with the crusades. All that same stuff flied around when they made their slaves be Christians in North America and Latin America. It was all done with the bible in one hand, and an axe in the other.

Actually, by far the whopping majority of the Muslim world disagrees completely with their view on Islam. So it's not what it is.

No, I consider Christianity to be the doctrine written in the bible, while you seem to view Christianity as the collective behavior of Christians. All the parts are written in the bible.

No, I compare the written doctrine of the bible to that of the written doctrine of the koran and hadiths.

Deuteronomy 13:6-10: "If your very own brother, or your son or daughter, or the wife you love, or your closest friend secretly entices you, saying, “Let us go and worship other gods” (gods that neither you nor your ancestors have known, gods of the peoples around you, whether near or far, from one end of the land to the other), do not yield to them or listen to them. Show them no pity. Do not spare them or shield them. 9 You must certainly put them to death. Your hand must be the first in putting them to death, and then the hands of all the people. Stone them to death, because they tried to turn you away from the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery."

Thank you all for your replies. The majority of you feel that the violence of Islam is a good match for the violence of prison convicts. This makes perfect sense.

Yours is the classic," when did you stop beating your misses" question. That means that as with most of your polls no one with an sense can make anything out of them.

There are all kinds of prison gangs in the US penal system from the Mexican Mafia to the Black Guerilla Family. Prison inmates are naturally attracted to extremist ideologies and prison Islam is the new phenomenon, promoted by Islamist preachers who infiltrated the prison system. It's estimated that Muslim inmates comprise 17-20% of the prison population in New York and these converted inmates are mostly African American. The Aryan Brotherhood (AB) has about 20,000 members in and out of prison and the AB gang makes up less than 1% of the prison population but it is responsible for up to 18% of murders in the federal prison system.

That is to a specific people in a specific land at a specific time in the past. Land that later god allowed the jews to be expelled from, commanding the jews to go to other nations and be good citizens. And Christians have the new testament. Has as much relevance to a Christian today as the prohibitions against eating swine.

    Ephesians 2
15 by abolishing in his flesh the law with its commandments and regulations.

    Hebrews 8
13 By calling this covenant "new," he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and aging will soon disappear.

    Romans 10
4Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.(*)

    Romans 7
6But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code.

    2 Corinthians 3
13We are not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face to keep the Israelites from gazing at it while the radiance was fading away. 14But their minds were made dull, for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant is read. It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away.

Galatians 3 13Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: "Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree."

23Before this faith came, we were held prisoners by the law, locked up until faith should be revealed. 24So the law was put in charge to lead us to Christ[h] that we might be justified by faith. 25Now that faith has come, we are no longer under the supervision of the law

    A verse war is brewing.

Matthew 5:17 - "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them."

No you compare it to the actions of IS, but claim they do it according to the koran, eventhough you know all the major clergs world wide say they do not follow the koran. And the old testament is full of glorifying massacres. How about you tell me what the massacring of all the first born in Egypt is about and how that is not worshipping babykilling?

If you want to know whether or not ISIS follows the Qu'ran, you need to look at the Qu'ran. There are at least 110 verses in the Qu'ran which promote holy war.

If you understood what goes on in prisons, you'd understand why the AB has so much support for their actions. There needs to be at least 10x as much such action, believe it.

Stories of violence from the past, with no commandment for the future. In contrast to Islam where the believers are commanded to "fight". "kill", "slay" and "smite the necks" of the unbelievers "UNTIL religion should only be for Allah". Today, religion is not yet only for Alah
