While at Target today, I asked the cashier if their restrooms were open. She said yes and they were sanitized each hour. But that still leaves many questions.

How do you maintain social distancing in a restroom? Should only one person be allowed in while others wait outside? If you are in a stall and hear another person in the next stall, does the thin wall between you constitute a safe distance? If there are a string of urinals, should some be taped over to leave a six- foot distance between the others?

If you are in a stall and hear someone at the faucet, do you wait until they leave the restroom before you leave the stall to use the sink?

When people talk and breathe. we expel small water particles that can carry the virus. These particles can normally travel six feet. They can travel up to 13 feet with a sneeze or cough.

The point is to avoid these particles landing on you. They aren't going to pass through a metal wall. So the stalls should be fine. Just remember the goal is to avoid expelled particles that fly through the air before falling to the floor. And assume all surfaces have been contaminated. Wash your hands well. Don't touch your face. Take off your clothes and shower when you get home. Wash your clothes.

The solid barrier itself is both your ally and your enemy. His saliva will not travel through it, but whoever was in yours before you got in, will be all over the place. keep your distance at the urinals and sink, wash your hands thoroughly, and after you have touched the door to depart ( the door is not your ally), use that hand sanitizer in your pocket. Keep your own mask on, and at least you won't be touching your own mouth and nose without knowing it. When you get to your own car, use that sanitizer again before opening your car door ( credit card, buttons in the card reader, change, exit doors etc) Sanitize/ wipe down outsides of your packages themselves.

If, by god, you really really have to take a dump, it will be hard not to place your rear where others have placed theirs.

Try not to shove your fingers in your mouth after touching your ass, the toilet paper holder and that seat.

I don't know what one should do in that situation if they are the first one in the restroom, however if you are the second person, you should probably try to keep a decent distance away from the person who is already there, and not use the stall/urinal/sink that is right next to them. Personally, I try to avoid using public restrooms, this was a practice of mine long before the virus

The stall dividers protect you from E. coli, but that is probably the extent of restroom protection.

I never touch the handle or push plates on restroom doors. Every person touches those. I carry a short length of paracord to pull the door open with, and push open on the paint, not the metal plate. Been doing that for years because of flu.

Sometimes there's a sink where the hot water doesn't work. That's the safest sink, few will use it, and it's usually telltale dry or less wet.

All the rest is high risk all the time imo with no choice but to share the air in a confined space. Mask should help a bit. It hasn't been a problem for me in the last five weeks as I haven't gone inside any businesses or buildings.

Also you can put sanitizer in the small shampoo bottles from motels/hotels as an extra defense to carry all the time. You can squeeze some on a piece of waste paper or paper towel (wipes now being scarce) and wipe the shopping cart handle if the store doesn't provide anything and sanitize your hands before you unlock your vehicle when leaving.

Sometimes there are woods nearby, and a short walk into cover before entering the store. Reduce your risk as best you can.

And don't lick toilet seats like that crazy arse young woman did and then she issued a challenge for others to do that. Avoid her for any and all purposes.

I think the proper protocol is to come into the restroom talking loudly on the phone about your hospital shift ending and having had too much Taco Bell at lunch.

If you got a good sneeze coming on hold it until you're in the restroom and they'll scatter like it was gunfire.
