From my point of view (if we are talking about the East Germany, that did not have a help from the West), the main problem with USSR is that while Germany was not allowed to have army and make any developments in military area, USSR spent huge amounts of budget for military. That is one of the reasons. Another one, Also I think that there is apparently something in psychology. I think that Gemans on average are more hard working and neat in work (all the farmindustry, development of electronics and optics is the strong point in Germany). Finally, corruption. Germany is not so much damaged by corruption as Russia.

Germany has much natural resources and very good geography for trade.
Under Anglo vassalage it gained access to Anglo world markets and also received large amounts of foreign investment.

People on this planet face apocalypse daily. The world will always have more mouths to feed than food to eat.
Because we breed.
Life blooms in years of good harvest. Dies out in years of bad.

Resources are finite. Food, shelter, fuel. It's a finite resource.

You don't have the entire resources of the universe at your disposal. Not even the entire resources of the planet.
You must compete with the other inhabitants for that.

No one built faster than the Soviets. They out produced the combined war industries of the 28 richest countries on earth by a factor of 8:1.

 

Solution is simple - spend more time farming and sharing, rather than murdering each other.

 

There is only a limited amount of food a farm can grow.
Only a limited amount of places where food can be grown.
Only a limited amount of food to share, only a limited distance food can be transported.

There is no solution to this.
