A former cop explained it to me like this. Blacks far too often come from we be village. I says, what do you mean? We be goin to da town We be misin skol ... Stuff like that I sold a home to a very nice black and his black wife. A bit about each He Graduated from an eastern university with a degree in nuclear engineering She Graduated with a degree as a teacher He always was very articulate talking to me and she as well. The day they were departing back to the East, he was talking to his black work crew. They were helping him pack and move items He is talking to them using ebonics. Even though highly educated, he is talking ebonics.
from the description: "This is actually NOT from In Living Color, but the radio show "John London and the House Party" on 92.3 KKBT Los Angeles from the 90's" from a comment: "This is not from Living Color. It's from the shock jock morning radio show "John London and the House Party" in the 90's. The show and it's white DJ had a contentious relationship with the local black community in L.A."
Does the OP live in Arizona? She has refused to reveal her location in other posts. My grievance is that the OP makes unsubstantiated statements and then won't cite evidence.
And that's perfectly fine, right? Like people from the south say "y'all" and whatever else. People from New York say "ova dere"...or whatever. And some people pretend to talk high class and change their accent depending.... it's a pretty common thing.
You're not hearing me. I said people BORN IN THE SAME PLACE. They should all sound the same. You should not be able to tell what race they are, via their speech patterns/accents. If you can tell what race someone is by listening to their accent (when listening to different people born in the same area), then there is very definitely a problem. It cannot NOT be a problem, because the implication is that they do not interact.
She seems like a pretty nice broad at times but other times it seems like she is bitter and hateful. I am pretty sure she lives in the godforsaken wasteland of Az.
So a black person and a white person born in the same city/area will sound exactly the same? No one would ever be able to tell which is which via just listening?
You are exactly correct. I have been in Berlin and heard blacks speak in perfect British accents. But our American blacks are very very homogenized here. They do not pick up the local accent, they have a unique accent and language we call ebonics. There is this white actor playing the Good Doctor. Listen to him talk on the show. But when not on the show, he sounds as if he came from England to me. On the show Real life
Have thought it was from In Living Color for 25 years, so not really taking youtube comments as gospel without more.
I recall during the Obama era when Holder HOWLED that nobody wanted to discus race in this nation; and then some Right of Center people did just that and promptly got roasted because what Holder and lock step leftists really meant was that unless one adhered in every aspect to leftist political correctness one was a racist period. TRY putting down the leftist Race Card deck for once and simply take the O.P at face value; WOULD texting in Eubonics style be more difficult than in standard English?
She was asking IF not saying that it WAS. What is it with leftists and their auto playing of the Race Card for everything under the sun?
Who told you that? America is a big place, you know. There are all sorts of reasons why people speak the way they do. As long as what anyone says is nice and not some racist BS, the different ways people speak is part of what makes America, and the world, great. Ain't it? People looking for differences that aren't even really different and focusing on them negatively are what's "wrong", it seems to me. Why America is going backwards in this way is sad. Like this thread.
How the hell was I playing the race card? You're quoting me saying, "you really think it's more difficult" is the frickin race card? And pointing out that many "languages" use punctuation and slang and code? Give me a break, man. The right is soooooooooooo full of it, it's really disgusting
I'm finding that many young people, white,l ones that I know, do not know what a sentence is. It's a shame.
How on earth do they avoid it? Where I live (not America), no matter what colour/race or ethnicity you are, if you're born here you will sound exactly like everyone else in your region. You literally can't avoid it. Doesn't matter whether you mix mainly with your own kind, or the broader community, you will be more or less indistinguishable in terms of speech. This tells me that there is a deliberate attempt by minorities in America (those born in the US) to separate themselves. That's horrible.
So, you can't tell the difference between a black person and a white person both born in the same region? Well that's great .. that tells us they ARE interacting, and not playing some weird divisive race game.
I accept that, but it certainly differs from what my American friends tell me. They talk about Ebonics. So is Ebonics not real?
