Racism doesn't exist because it's not provable with criminal evidence. It's impossible to prove Hitler was a "racist" in a criminal court, just that he killed millions of Jews. Therefore there's no reason to believe Hitler was a racist, since there's no criminal evidence of it.
And that ties in with the other thread on fundamentalism, a perfect example of how taking compromise and rationality out of an argument and using a literal world view creates problems, huge ones.
Are you trying to prove that racism doesn't exist or that Hitler wasn't racist? Hitler being racist is usually not the go to example of racism. But yeah, sure, there are those who argue that Hitler was uninterested in the racial dimension, that he simply regarded it as the simplest way to gain votes and support.
Swensson: Off topic but: Great signature, and how profoundly true. I truly love the God who made the laws that maintain how atoms can combine with other atoms to make elements, and the God who dictates the pulsation periods of pulsars, and the God of time--the creator of all things, and the God of the supernatural and spirituality; but I cannot stand organized religion. They all seem so imperfect, and too trite to be the 'one true religion'. God is the amazing unknowable, and to pretend to know God, I think, is silly. I think to know, or be amazed at science or to love science (some of us love science but aren't really good at it) is the greatest form of worship there is. Just looking at the pictures from the Hubble Space Telescope is enough to 'convert' anyone.
You are aware that, when people plead guilty, we tend to accept that as evidence, right? The self-ascribed racists beliefs espoused by racists is proof that racism exists.
let me see if I have this clear ..... you have no idea who or what this god is, but you 'love' it? also, FTR, I've seen Hubble pics galore and remain entirely atheist. oh wait, you meant the pics would convert anyone to SCIENCE and REASON. well yes, I would imagine that's true. - - - Updated - - - I think he's trying to suggest that secularists accept that Hitler was 'racist' without empirical evidence of same - therefore we ought to accept that bigfoot is real and Odin is lord.
I think so too, but I'm trying to condition people to be clear with their questions and statements by only replying to that which is clear.
I highly doubt Hitler was actually racist, since most of the Jews were white. Ethnicity and race are two different things. We have to also take into account that Hitler was simply trying to find a scapegoat to rally the German people against. He did not care what people it was, as long as he could use them as enemies of Germany. The Jews, Romani (Gypsies), and others just happen to be what the Catholic dominated Germany saw as the enemy.
I don't know why you're preoccupied with specific myths - I'm talking about philosophy here, not myths. I mean unless you've seen Bigfoot I wouldn't expect you to believe in it, but I think there's a lot of evidence for philosophical concepts such as moral symmetry even though they aren't testable by the "scientific method".
Hitler was an Anti-Semite and that can be proven. Just as it can be proven that the KKK is racist. Neither of those (whether they are considered a crime or not) is desirable and should be attacked by everybody with some decent values. At least that is what WW2 thought us here in Europe. There was an evangelical priest who said: "When they came and took the Jews, I did nothing because I wasn't a Jew. When they came and took the gays, I did nothing because I wasn't homosexual. When they came and took the Gypsies, I did nothing because I was no Gypsy. When they came and took me, there was nobody left who'd come to my aid." This story of a Nazi-concentration camp surviver registers with me on a very personal note. Whenever I see racism, sexism, homophobia or anything thing else I jump to the defense of those who need it. I don't want to be one of those who "did nothing because"-type guys. There have been to many like that in WW2 and we should learn from their mistake. Doing nothing is not good enough...
what specific myths are they, Spacecakes? and Bigfoot has a role in a bad Canadian sci fi called "Sanctuary". look it up - - - Updated - - - you're a correctobot, Swenss
