Hey folks, back again and with a new crop of Ranked votes.
For a number of reasons, its looking like the next few serious ranked votes are going to be pretty intense, with the one for comprehensive immigration likely to be particularly hefty. So I figure, why not balance things out a bit with a couple more easy/fun votes?

FYI, though this thread is a bit of a lighthearted departure from the rest, it is part of a larger series of threads geared towards coming up with and voting on solutions to society's persistent and pressing issues:

The subject of this vote is simple. What is your favorite color? Or more accurately, what are your favorite colors. There are actually quite a lot of polls out there already which ask people what their top favorite color is, but this one will be slightly different than those, in that I'd also like to know, in addition to your favorite color, your second favorite color too, and your third, and the fourth one as well...and so on... how ever many you'd like to rank.

No nomination phase this time around. Below, I've listed the 'main' colors, plus... oh, its the return of bonus options, and this time we get two for the price of one :aww: as I've added both gold and silver into the list (hope no-one objects). As always, if there's a particular option that's not in the list, you can still add it to your ranking by simply "writing it in".

What is... What are your Favorite Colors?:
    A. Red
    B. Red-Orange
    C. Orange
    D. Yellow-Orange
    E. Yellow
    F. Yellow-Green
    G. Green
    H. Turquoise/Cyan/Blue-Green
    I. Blue
    J. Blue-Violet
    K. Violet/Purple
    L. Magenta/Red-Violet
    M. Pink
    N. Brown
    O. Black
    P. White
    Q. Grey
    R. Gold
    S. Silver

To participate in this vote, simply cast your ballot by making a post in this thread with a list of the letters sorted in your order of preference.
    B, C, D, F, H, M

Lastly, if this vote is a bit too fun, joyful, and or... colorful for your liking... check out its sibling vote for something a bit more... menacing...

Definitely red... or green... Or whatever the <Rule 9> the colour is in my red-green colourblind eyes. No, seriously though; I like red. Unless I am playing Uno because then red is green.

Well there is L. Magenta/Red-Violet, that's sort of like fluorescent Hot Pink, right?
Though really fluorescent colors are really just a really specific shade of other colors.
You can vote for whatever color you want by the way. If its not in the list, just write out its name.

What the... you actually have a favorite set of non-ultra-specific colors and aren't shy about sharing your preferences publicly??
Lol, I was starting to think I might be the only one around who actually liked regular colors at all! I mean... aren't you ashamed? :p
Lol! But now that your picks are out in the open, people will ridicule you for them. They'll know your dirty little secret that your
favorite colors are really just the RGB primary color model in reverse!... I mean,... that has to be a little embarrassing... right? :D
But seriously though, why do you suppose so few people are willing to share something so benign as their favorite colors?

feel that people, in general, try to find a reason to reject others instead of focusing on reasons to accept one another. It is no different in color choice. I've lost count the number of times someone dismissed me out of turn simply because they felt that something (seemingly meaningless/benign) didn't fit with their notion of "the right way". It happens all the time. We make split second decisions to size one another up and it usually doesn't sway toward focusing on the positive.

In this particular case, one could be categorized as "too masculine" or "too girly" or "boring" or other adjectives to reject someone solely based on their favorite colors. It's silly but it's life as we know it.

Eh, that sucks, but you're probably right. I think the same thing about political discussions actually. There always seems to be a big focus on finding problems, pointing fingers, and uncovering the bad in things, which, I would say that it is important to identify flaws, but very rarely do I see much emphasis being put on trying to come up with actual solutions to the various problems. And perhaps that is because of what you said, that people for whatever reason just seem to have a much easier time finding the bad in things than the good... that they are more inclined to reject than to accept.

So maybe that explains why a thread like this isn't that popular. One can say that a particular color choice is boring or not suitable for a certain gender or whatever, but there really isn't all that much else bad that you can say about color preferences. With that bug thread, at least there we could all agree that those creepy bugs were in fact bad and also creepy (for a variety of reasons), so that gave folks a lot more room to criticize stuff :p. Yep, if there's one thing we humans seem to love doing, its complaining XD.

So now I know what to do if I ever set up another thread like this one. :D
I just need to frame it as Least Favorite Colors rather than Favorite Colors.
Despite the fact that there still wouldn't be that much to complain about, maybe by simply gearing the thread toward the negative it will be enough for the thread to get some love XD. But in seriousness, when it comes to political problems I do still think that focusing on positive solutions makes the most sense there. Folks may not be used to looking at things in such positive terms, but that's just all the more reason to try and get them to try it out. :D

    I like blue.

But, the issue isn't that I like blue, the issue is that should we actually rank the rest of the colors, answers in the aggregate will dilute a definitive declaration by a vote cast. This is why having to cast votes for less preferred options is a bad concept in the law, and elections. So, for example, if I were to vote in CA gov race, I wouldn't want any part of my ballot to support Gavin. Unless I can only vote for "anyone other than Gavin", I still end up having to cast a fractional vote for Gavin. And gavin sucks. So, no thanks.

Will it? If you're tallying up the results using some sort of point-based system, then yeah I could definitely see that. But the methods I'm using here for these Ranked Votes are Instant Run-off (IR) and Ranked Pairs (RP). In both IR and RP your alternate picks do not affect the likelihood of your more preferred options making it to the top of the final results. At the bottom of the post in the following link, there's a walk-through of the IR process using the ballots from an old vote asking about favorite vegetables: http://www.politicalforum.com/index.php?goto/post&id=1068992191

Yeah, from what you're telling me, it sounds like you're thinking of a point-based system or perhaps some sort of Fractional Voting. But at least with IR and RP, including the votes that I set up here on PoliticalForum, there is no requirement for voters to vote for or give any support whatsoever towards a candidate they don't want to. A voter can vote for as many or as few options as they would like. If you check out that vegetable vote link I posted, you'll note that a lot of posters did just that, with one poster ranking 13 vegetables and with several others only listing 1 or 2. So if your Gavin was running in a Ranked Vote using IR or RP and you didn't want to include him in your ranking, you wouldn't have to. :-D

BTW, interesting tidbit of trivia on Gavin Newsom. He himself has actually been a long-time opponent of Ranked Voting (Instant Runoff specifically). From what I've read about it, he hasn't really given any compelling reasons as to why he doesn't like it... perhaps he just wants to maintain the more traditional methods which lead to his own election. If you want to really get under his skin though, well now you have a really good way to do it assuming you live in CA! :p

Hey now... if folks keep posting votes here, I may actually have to put up some results for this.
With all the chaos going on in the U.S. right now though it may take me a while to get around to it.
If any of you guys are interested though, there's actually another vote going on right now on National issues:
link: What are the Nation's Top Issues Most Needing to be Addressed (US)(2020-Edition)

^That one was scheduled to end this Friday (tomorrow) and I'm still going to try and meet that.
So if you want, feel free to drop by there and share your top issues before I post the results.
