    Rep. Kevin McCarthy, who this fall became the first speaker to be ousted from power in the middle of a congressional term, said Wednesday he will resign from office at the end of this month.

    His exit is a blow to his successor, Speaker Mike Johnson, and House Republicans, further cutting the already narrow GOP majority and making passing legislation in 2024 even more challenging.

    "No matter the odds, or personal cost, we did the right thing. That may seem out of fashion in Washington these days, but delivering results for the American people is still celebrated across the country," McCarthy, R-Calif., wrote in an op-ed in The Wall Street Journal.

    Wow... what a year this guy has had, huh?? From SOTH to unemployed in less than a year... Sounds like a book title to me.

    Will be interesting to see if his district is finally ready to sample somebody who might actually know how to govern? Which only leaves 1 choice anymore...

    Who can ever forget when he said the quiet part out loud about the numerous Benghazi "investigations".

    After santos and now mccarthy, doesn’t that leave only 1 republican refusing to impeach Biden to completely destroy the constitutional impeachment investigation?

    What they are doing now is just playing house it seems.

    How can anyone vote for these people. That they ten turn around can call themselves patriots is even more pathetic

    This is no surprise. Most ousted Speakers leave as soon as the term ends. Only “the living fossil,” Nancy Pelosi, hangs on because she can’t give up the power, has nothing better to do with her life and figures she might pick up some more insider trading tips.

    Jim Wright
    Newt Gingrich
    Dennis Hastart
    Kevin McCarthy

    All of them left Congress at the same time or about the same time they had to leave the Speakership.

    Only McCarthy was ousted.

    You may not look like an encyclopedia, but many exist at the end of your finger tips. Use them.
    Then you won't make such a simple mistake between ousted and quit.

    I do see, your list is all republican? If not, you're able to up me for I did not do any homework on your list. But from memory, everyone on your list is republican.

    Jim Wright was a Democrat. You play semantics about how they left office, but all of them left involuntarily.

    It doesn’t really matter the party. If a politician is guilty of wrong doing, they need to go.
