Retiring Florida Rep. Stephanie Murphy called out Democratic leadership for repeatedly siding with the left flank of the party against moderate members during a Friday interview.

Murphy, a co-chair of the moderate Blue Dog Coalition, speculated that congressional leaders direct left-leaning interest groups to advocate for their specific positions and browbeat moderates. She noted her experience receiving criticism for her vote to support Kate’s Law, a bill that increased prison sentences for illegal immigrants found re-entering the country, as well as her lukewarm support for the Build Back Better social spending package.

“A lot of these outside groups that purport to represent a specific interest are just an extension of leadership. Instead of purely focusing on their issue area,” she toldPolitico’s Rachael Bade….

She is exactly right! Democrats have totally abandoned and steamrolled their moderate wing. They passed up many accomplishments they could have had in hand if they didn’t obsess on the extreme. As a result she is retiring and a Republican May win her seat.

Democrats went for broke with the tiniest of majorities and accomplished almost none of their big agenda while turning the public against them. All they did was create inflation and energy dependence.

    Agreed.

    Republicans have done the same.

It's all fringe talking points, and most centrist Americans stand by shaking their heads.

We need a viable third party.

To be totally fair, I'm anti illegal immigration but oppose "Kate's law". The answer is more consistent enforcement of law that already exists, not getting more punitive.
That seems to be the easy legislative approach: just add another law. But the reality is the problem here is entirely in how the law is being enforced, and how it is often going unenforced.

Obviously, the Dem Party needs to keep people like AOC on fringes.

The Republicans at least are moving away from their establishment elites and fronting for multinational corporations, banks, and crony capitalists and toward the multiracial working and middle class/independent small business coalition. The numbers of minority communities members joining the GOP and running for office as Republicans is heartwarming and a reason for optimism and hope.

I’m glad that they have her and the rest of the squad out front and center scaring all the sane members with the threat of being primaried from the left.

    Nah...
    She ISN'T "My Girl"...
I like her, but I don't agree with some of her positions...
I can't control what the voters in her district decide...
Good for her if she is getting rich...
    And, btw:
AOC ISN'T The Dem Party any more that MT Greene IS the GOP.

Moderate Dem quits Congress in disgust, denouncing 'rainbows and unicorns'

"She outlined how radical activists have taken over the Democrat party, turning elected congressmembers, moderate or otherwise, into rubber-stamp parliamentarians."

We all knew this a long time ago, while this lady is right, she is also rather slow.

31 Dems see the Red Wave coming and are running like rats from the voters.
We don't see many of these mythological "moderate" Democrats.

No opportunity to read bills that spend $Trillions before voting on them.
    That's by design.
It's as ridiculous as we feared. I wrote my Congressman and told him that "I voted no on the bill because they did not give me time to review it before the vote" would ALWAYS be an acceptable reason for voting no on any bill. We all need to do the same: Republicans, Independents and Democrats.
But, when the GOP retakes the majority this year, will this change, or will it be the same irresponsible corrupt crap just from the other side? If it is, we need a Constitutional Amendment that grants Article 1 power to the State Legislatures acting in concert. Right now, Congress knows that they are the only game in town, that only they have the Article One Power to put legislation on the President's desk for signature and so what they don't feel like doing, they don't, seemingly, no matter which party is in power.

There is a solution. A Constitutional Amendment that provides that if the majority of the State Legislatures pass the identical bill, that it goes to the President for signature, and if 2/3rds of the State Legislature vote to do so, a presidential veto is overridden. Pass that and our Federal Legislatures will suddenly remember how to listen to their voters.

Another amendment to restore the balance of power between the State legislatures and the Congress: On the vote of the State Legislature they may recall their Senator and the Governor will appoint a replacement. Pass that and the US Senate will suddenly rediscover their lost love for State Rights that is at the base of our Federal Republic.
While this article is written from the perspective that Dems are the problem, and they certainly are a problem, the problem may run deeper.
