But what if it's the policy itself that's bigoted? Can't we point that out?

 

One can say what they don’t like about a proposed policy in a debate and even suggest that it may have an impact that seems to have bad consequences for one group or another without saying that the advocate of a policy one disagrees with is a bigot.

 

I've done that here and in more than one instance had someone say it was ad hominem. (no, I can't remember the specific instance, I do know it happened).

It can be hard to separate the man from the policy. When you hear Trump's first speech about immigrants what else can you think BUT that the man is about as pure a bigot as there is.

we should of gave all black people reparations for slavery
and all white people a check for risking their lives freeing them
