Riot Cops Break Up Nike Shoe Crowd at Fla. Mall

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) – “More than 100 sheriff's deputies in riot gear broke up an out-of-control crowd waiting outside a mall to buy a limited edition Nike basketball shoe.

Authorities say there were no injuries or arrests outside the Florida Mall late Thursday. The crowd began getting unruly as hundreds packed the parking lot, waiting to buy the $220, limited-edition shoe that was timed to be released during the NBA All-Star Game in Orlando.

Police also arrested one person in a crowd in Maryland waiting for the shoe's release. The disturbances follow a series of outbursts across the country in December as impatient shoppers lined up for another new basketball shoe from Nike Inc.

The Orlando Sentinel reported the crowd was asked to wait across the street when the mall closed. But one person ran toward Foot Locker and others followed.

Authorities formed a line and used shields to push back the crowd.

"I saw hundreds of people running toward me. I thought I was going to get trampled," Amanda Charles, 20, told the newspaper. Charles was among a group of a half-dozen friends who drove more than two hours from Jacksonville to try to buy the glow-in-the-dark Nikes.

At a mall in Hyattsville, Md., police said Friday they arrested one person for disorderly conduct as a crowd of more than 100 awaited the shoe's release.”

    …..

Well, that about settles it, the only thing that will drive Americans to frothing panic is the inability to wait to buy some Glow-In-The-Dark Nikes. They were only $220 dollars and were a bargain…now all we need is a matching outfit that glows in the dark tooooo.

But wait…. While standing in line to get these Chinese made gems, you can be treated to a show of 100 sheriff deputies dressed in riot gear controlling a mob of 100 citizens resulting in the arrest of one (1) person. But I guess the idea is to get the citizenry used to seeing police in riot gear as our new way of life while shopping for our Nike fix.

The whole idea of this rather clandestine encounter with glow-in-the-dark Nikes, Florida rednecks and police brutality is to remind citizens that we are in danger of losing our most basic rights when we go shopping at the mall. All Americans need to stand up to the merciless authoritarian measures of our local gendarme.

In the meantime, my new glow-in-the-dark Nikes are going to look so weird on the dance floor of a dimly lit lounge.

The only Nike's I am going to get exited over are the self tying ones they are going to be releasing in 2015 (they will look and work exactly like the ones in Back to the Future 2!)

    .....

My, you ARE lazy aren't you....

My fave Nikes are a pair of high top black with white stripes I got and still bring everywhere I go. They are so comfy, light and I wear them with everything.

Give all these 'OJ jurors' an AK 45 and a thousand rounds each. A couple of hundred years ago they were rioting and killing each other over a couple of pieces of mirror.

    $220? WTF?

I'm 48 years old with a BS degree in engineering and have been consistently employed my whole life and I have never bought a pair of shoes that cost more than $100.

    Do these thugs have jobs?

Are they on some kind of government assistances?

    Inquiring minds want to know.

I am not lazy, I just really love Back to the Future and think the the shoes would be a fun novelty. They don't look like the type of shoes I would wear normally.

These 'OJ jurors' will never understand what it means to be proud of putting in........forget it. In a hundred years there will still be people who don't have the genetic foundation to be able to control/support themselves. The biggest mistake in American history was to allow slaves to be brought to the country. Oh the irony. Now the generations descendant from the slaves are enslaving those who now must pay taxes to feed and house them in perpetuity. It's like buying a car that turns out to cost you thousands more dollars to keep it on the road than it's worth.

They wouldn't had had to be brought in if the Indians had not been slaughtered... or if people had had morals...
