The EU is making a big mistake. Brexit is going to be, economically, pretty benign, and it's going to embolden anti-EU factions throughout the continent. If they don't soften their negotiating stance significantly they're going to weaken their own position.
What idiotic bla bla. If the Eu soften its stance it would tell the UK it can be a clib member without club payments. Crushing the UK is a far better way for the EU. The Uk cant have EU benefits without being EU member. Its that easy.
Except that's not what's going to happen. There's going to be a little panic, maybe even a little chaos, and then things will go back to normal. Norway and Switzerland seem to be pulling it off. Your leaders are ****ing this up Sobo. They can't help themselves.
The European Union is destroying the European Union and the UK is simply the little piece of straw that destabilized the whole wagon. I Truly hope they wake up before everything tumbles down a cliff.
Yeah, they don't like uncertainty. Once the smoke clears, they're going to find that very little has changed economically. Politically? That's another matter. Brexit is likely to fracture the UK, and it's also going to contribute to the fracturing of the EU.
The EU will force a hard border on the island of Ireland; The EU will break the Good Friday Agreement. UK has already said it doesn't want a hard border, so any hard border on the island of Ireland will be EU breaking the Good Friday Agreement. One solution would be to give Ireland a vote; either have the EU's hard border, or to remain in the EU but allign with post Brexit UK customs thus eliminating the need for a hard border on the island of Ireland. This will give Ireland the best of both worlds, in the EU, but with new customs to be able to use post Brexit UK customs. This will help Ireland if UK make any free trade deals outside of the EU; Dublin could be like Hong Kong is to China.
Thing is, they desperately need Brexit to be a disaster. They're going to do everything in their power to make it as painful as possible. The Irish angle is probably their best weapon to that end.
The EU will be shown any nation who leaves the EU can have trade deals with the world too. Article 50 exists as an exit to the EU. WTO law says any country leaving the European Communities can't be punished and will carry on as normal with the European Communities until a new trade deal is made. The EU have no teeth. They can offer a worse deal, or try to stop an exit, but if this is a success, they can't stop anyone else from leaving too.
Norway and Switzerland have the model that the UK resisted. So you say the UK should simply sign the deal. Good we agree
The UK is a micronation with no market power. What deals you think will USA or China give you? You will have to accept the deals they order you.
UKs in line to get a deal with USA before EU; Trump's not rushing to do a deal with the EU given its hostility and current economic set up. Experts warned against the single currency for decades and when they were proved right, the EU changed article 125.
No deal means it's business as usual until UK gets a new deal. It's already on the agenda for WTO this year, 'Brexit', so UK can continue as it is today until UK makes a new deal.
We allow that when we have freedom of good and people in UK as well, as before. Glad we agree. Its exactly what we want.
I'm not impugning the value of the deal, I'm saying that countries do get the benefits of the EU without membership.
What place has the UK in MAGA? Trump tariffed the **** out of Bombardier. So much that its Belfast factory would have to close. Just to favor Boeing. You get the deal they dictate you. They will squeeze you out like a lemon. You have zero negotiation power and you know that. Your tiny market.
Why would the WTO allow European Communities punish anyone who leaves? Short answer is, it won't; so EU have no teeth. WTO makes sure a no deal exit will be business as usual until a new deal is made. - So UK shouldn't sign a bad deal with the EU. There is no talk of accepting this failed deal in the UK at all. To prevent a border on the island of Ireland, you'd have to stop the EU from building one, one way to do that is to have Ireland inline with Brexit customs. Keeping Ireland in the EU, but not in the EU customs. Otherwise the EU will break the Good Friday Agreement. UK doesn't want a border, so it's all on the EU.
Yup, Norway and Switzerland automaticly adopt all EU regulations without being a member. They even pay the EU money for that acess.
My point is that they're not going to agree to that, and that the mistake being made is allowing a no-deal Brexit to go forward. I don't particularly care about Brexit, I just think that if defending the EU is something you care about, allowing a no-deal Brexit to go forward is a disaster.
WTO is like UNO, powerless. Dude you live in a dream world. After Brexit not even your airlines will be able to land in Europe.
actually, EU is powerless against WTO stopping EU punishing an exiting member. Have you even bothered to look at WTO?
