http://english.alarabiya.net/articles/2012/08/31/235333.html Is there any other country in the world where you can't stop a taxi in the street to take you to a hospital in an emergency where the taxi is just going to drive by and leave you standing because you didn't have a phone handy to call him and book him first?
Certainly seems a bit odd, to me. Anyone care to speculate on the reasoning behind it? A new security measure? A more strict way to regulate/compile tax data perhaps?
It's the same in the UK for what we refer to as ''private hire'' cabs, which is anything except what we call ''black cabs,'' which can be hailed in the street. Although all taxis here are privately owned, the regulations for ''black cabs'' are tougher, the number of licenses issued are restricted, and their fares are more expensive. Dusty
So are the non black cabs in the UK not allowed to pick up passengers without booking? I have been in a few and they picked me up then radioed back they had a customer Did they break the law?
Just to confuse matters further, not all ''black cabs'' are black, and some ''private hire'' taxis are black cabs, although operated through a ''private hire'' company. If you hailed it in the street and it picked you up, it was most likely a ''black cab.'' The ''private hire'' taxis don't typically pick people up who hail them in the street, as most ''black cab'' drivers would report them if they saw them doing so. Both types of taxis have their own ranks, with ''black cabs'' tending to have the monopoly in city centres, while ''private hire'' taxi ranks are mostly in the suburbs. Apart from booking one, going to a ''private hire'' taxi rank is the only other legal way of getting in one. Dusty
Well they were not the traditional black cab you see or the same cab but in a different colour. Just a sedan car with a taxi logo and light
The reason is that RELIGION disconnects the brain from realty. The more religious, the more disconnected from reality one becomes. They are obviously super-religious. Jesus, Mohammad, Moses, etc. were super-religious, and were incredibly disconnected from reality.
You could be right. Its been many years since I left Saudi , but I'm confident they've got a dam good reason for whatever restrictions they've introduced abt hailing taxis. ,,, .
