Do you know why so many of our youth today are lazy, are disinterested in working, have become TV and X-Box robots, are failing the basic 3 'r's in school, refuse to engage in sports, have zero competitive drive and have little or no understanding or appreciation for our American history and traditions?

The answer is that their liberal parents have not instilled a meaningful work ethic into their dependent lives. These kids need to be taught a basic set of morals and values that can only be appreciated from having a strong work ethic.

How can a child become self-sufficient if they are always given the easy way out, or they were shown how to circumvent any and all trying tasks by opting for the path of least resistance?

Conservative children are taught to be self sufficient, to be responsible for their actions by having them work as a commitment to reach that outcome.

The Conservative work ethic has taught us to take tasks and problems head-on, and not to whine when something gets difficult, not to expect our government to hold our hand or give us direction, not to fall into a victimhood role, not to expect others to pay for our perceived or real shortcomings, not to form policies like A.A. and Quotas to help cater to other perceived personal shortcomings--but the work ethic has taught us to set goals and strive to be the best we can be without helplessly and fecklessly resorting to group think or group policy in reaching those goals.

The reason I posted this has everything to do with my nephew and my liberal brother staying at my house this past weekend. My brother who is a pinko-commie liberal has been raising this kid just the way one would expect a liberal to raise a total failure.

This whiny little 8-yr-old brat is on a steady diet of ADHD and bi-polar pills. I know...what a surprise. My brother didn't take the kid anywhere for the entire weekend. The kid stayed in one chair 24/7 diddling/playing with his I-pad, or tablet or the X-Box games. The kid has no personality, never smiles and never talks to anyone--a virtual recluse in his own right. He expects everyone to cater to his whiny demands. He is my nephew so I suppose I love him, but I'll never convince him or his liberal father that growing up without a solid Conservative work ethic spells doomsday for the little tyke.

parents of HS or College students who say that being a student is the full-time job of their child. I worked full time while attending college full time. Straight A's

My kids all have jobs while in school.

    I was wondering that myself.

I personally have noticed that many kids raised by conservatives are great kids.

Oddly enough I have noticed that many kids raised by liberals are great kids.

But if I went by the sole example of my nephew, raised by ultra-conservative parents, I would say that since he was thrown in jail for burglary that means that conservatives must be bad parents. He was a little too 'self sufficient'.

But luckily I don't tend to stereo type parents like that.

What a boatload of BS. Conservatives' and neoconservatives' children are NOT taught to be self sufficient, or in any way self reliant. They are taught to have faith in God, and that God will provide. This, and all of the other self-righteous crap so prevalent in right wing thinking.

Liberals' children are not the lazy, stupid clods you wish them to be. They are children that have been motivated by their parents to seek out knowledge, be willing to accept and create new ideas, and work to better society. This means ALL of society, not just themselves and their "betters" as conservatives and conservatives indoctrinate into the minds of their young.

It is the conservatives and neoconservatives that boast of how they shun higher education in the belief it creates elitists. It is the conservatives and neoconservatives that teach their children to hate those who are not like themselves. It is the conservatives and neoconservatives that reinterpret their Holy Scriptures so they, seemingly, support the lives of bigotry, racism, and intolerance lived by most conservatives and neoconservatives.

In your worship of the one percent and Big Business, you had better pray to them to fence off a large portion of the United States. This area is going to be necessary to intern all of the elderly, disabled, unemployed, poor, disabled veterans, and anyone else deemed nonproductive or a drain on society by the conservative and neoconservative judges of the U.S.

Republican conservatives and neoconservatives have long held that ignoring the plight of these tens of millions of Americans (and the number grows every year that conservative economic policies tear away at the middle class) will make them and their problems go away. So far, this has only exacerbated the situation, but the conservatives and neoconservatives are determined to keep making the rich richer and the poor poorer.

As this conservative and neoconservative need to maintain their policies for the upward redistribution of wealth, they to will, inevitably, join the tens of millions they condemned as worthless citizens. This is the only result possible given the current predatory system of capitalism advocated by the very rich, Big Business, and the conservatives and neoconservatives.

The OP must be talking about Trust Fund Babies. I agree; we should abolish all trust funds, inheritance, and living off an allowance in college. Then a lazy, low-IQ draftdodger like Bush would have wound up living in a trailer park. But I think heirhead Romney would have done a little better. He would have had a small but successful business in the Tough Love niche of dog training.

A parents ideological stance doesn't really determine how the kid would turn out. There's a lot more to it, like how the parents treat their kids, the kids social life, the list goes on and on. I just find the idea that using a parents political ideology to determine how a kid will turn out is stupid beyond comprehension, as kids often turn to the opposite ideology of their parents.

Look at Martin Luther King Jr., he was a christian leftist who advocated for civil rights of African Americans, but his daughter Bernice King is somewhat the opposite, who believes that LGBT's don't deserve the same civil rights. There's also Ronald Reagan, a conservative icon, but his son Ron Reagan is quite liberal.

Another clueless lefty. Conservative children learn to be self sufficient for all the reasons I posted in the OP. Faith in GOD is certainly a great enhancer for Conservatives to reach that goal, but unlike leftists we have learned to first believe in GOD, and then take to task HIS message that GOD helps those who help themselves. Oh how I love to teach liberals the facts of life while correcting their misconceptions about we Conservatives.

I don't wish them to be lazy stupid clods, I just accept the fact that they'll end up being lazy stupid clods.

Work to better society? LMFAO! These are the people that add to any and all problems of our society and culture at large. Name a societal problem or an ongoing societal problem where the roots of said problem(s) cannot be directly traced back to liberal tolerance or liberal policy.

You must be referring to all those great government run creations by FDR, LBJ and obummer for the betterment of society at large. Please point any successes as a result of implementing any of those government boondoggles.

What we shun is having liberal professors at universities teach students to hate America, to look upon our Founders as a bunch of racist hoodlums etc. Then we have a liberal racist like Jessie Jackson preaching his particular hate of America with his famous slogan...."Ho...Ho....Ho...Western Civilization has got to go". I wonder if he got the material for that slogan from his half breed buddy Obama--who also hates America as was noted from his European apology tour.

Conservatives don't hate anyone. But we certainly take a dislike to people like the Islamic radicals whose one mission in life is to kill all Western infidels. Now tell us you're in love with the memory of the 19 terrorists of 9/11 fame, and with the people who are forming worldwide terror cells who have the sole objective to kill you.

Seems like you're living in a fantasy world that is buffered by a revisionist mindset. Total bullcrap!

Conservatives only worship GOD, and that you should know by now. Recall my OP where I went into detail of how Conservatives set goals and become self sufficient through hard work. We don't worship those who become successful--we encourage others to follow the path that led to those successes by working hard to achieve that goal(s).

I didn't realize there is such a thing as a Conservative or a neo Conservative judge. I'll have to look into that.

You ever wonder what exactly is the plight of these tens of millions of Americans, and how they got themselves into this sorry state to begin with? If left to you and other leftists we as Americans would be spending all of our capital and or stealing all of the capital from the producers in our society just to even the playing field, just to bring social justice and to make everyone even. Woops, we're already doing that under obummer's reign. Tell me, how is the plight of these tens of millions of so-called helpless people working out for them under the New Deal, the Great Society and now the obamacare initiatives?

What exactly has a Conservative done to make the poor poorer? Try rereading my OP to find out the meaning of self sufficiency, and then apply that to those tens of millions of poor folk. Those people are poor and getting poorer not because of anything a Conservative has done, they're getting poorer because they weren't raised having a solid Conservative work ethic.

Big Business, Conservatism and Capitalism are the very entities that have fueled the economy making America the greatest nation on earth. Like it or not, Capitalism is and always has been king for a thriving nation. People you call worthless citizens have only themselves to blame for having that unfortunate label attached. How can capitalism and or the rich be predators of the poor? What type of prey could the capitalists take from the poor?

I'm not sure if a sweeping indictment of parenting skills along political lines is fair. I know of many children from conservative and moral families, whose children turn out to have issues...ranging from drug abuse to the inability to hold down a job.

Why are you letting your brother into your house in the first place? His kids/lifestyle definitely threatens your lifestyle/way of life. You should have picked up the little trollop by the ears and tossed his ADHD butt out of your house and told him to start mowing lawns and reciting the pledge of Allegiance at the top of ever hour. Then you should have taken your brother outside and slapped him across his teeth for raising his child like he has.

You had some points in this I guess. I don't understand what AA has to do with your nephew though. Is he a minority? I know some ultra Conservative adults who were Limbaugh babies and Homeschooled. I wouldn't call them shining examples of greatness. I don't think if you worked with them you would see your opinions on this as absolute.

The sheer stupidity of this statement is absolutely hilarious. The banks didn't run to the government for a handout, it was forced upon the banks through capitol injection to free up the credit markets. Please do not compare banks to the masses of Obama followers standing in line with their cap in hand saying "please sir, I want some more".

Obviously someone hasn't paid attention to 2008, like when the Federal government refused to bail-out Lehman Brothers after talks broke down on Barclay's and Bank of America purchasing Lehman Brothers as a whole. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/15/business/15lehman.html?_r=0

Obviously someone hasn't done their homework and didn;t pay attention to details. The Fed allowed Lehman to go bankrupt, they weren't bailed out, that is exactly my point Lehman held out for a sweetheart deal and the Fed didn't allow it. Talks didn't breakdown in the Bank of America purchasing Lehman, Bof A never wanted Lehman, which is why they purchased Merril Lynch, and as far as Barclay's goes, it was a done deal until the British regulators wanted 30 days to review the deal before allowing Barclay's to complete the purchase. At that time it was too late, Lehman was 3 days from going under. Nice try though.

    Libhater:

The liberal archetype for parenting is to offer counsel to children, be good role models worth emulating, to care for them when they are hurt and to protect them from unnecessary suffering when reasonably possible, to assist them in finding and taking advantage of opportunities to direct their own development, and to allow children to learn from experience and free thought rather than taking a highly interventionist role in teaching them what to value and believe.

The morality of children tends to be egoist - doing whatever they want without serious regard for how it affects others - so perhaps it makes sense that kids would opt to indulge in all sorts of recreation and avoid conflict if they do not thrive on it when nobody is keeping nearby to assertively micromanage how they spend their time. Perhaps you've touched on one of the weaknesses in the "nurturing parent" approach, in that children can become overly entitled or dependent if their folks try so hard to provide that they smother the kids' initiative and give them poor motivational habits.

In my personal experiences growing up, however, it does not end in quite the same way. All the support - both from family and society at large - begets a sense of indebtedness to other people. The debt to pay is not just to become a principled, successful son worthy of inspiring pride in both parents. It is also to share some of the most basic gifts of such support to kids who are otherwise deprived of the sort of privileged, upper-middle class upbringing and/or loving, highly positive home environs I happened to enjoy. Looking at the big picture, it sort of reminds me of ancient Athens, with folk being given generously to in their youths but then being expected to give just as generously back to others when they age and mature. Though some might describe me as lazy, it's not that I don't work long and hard so much as I do not always work long and hard at what other people want me to - or I am clever enough to find ways of more efficiently working so that I can spend more of my time free of others' control.

There are some other comments made in the OP I want to address. Are there really any important differences to draw attention to between multiplayer gaming and sports? The only thing I can think of is the physicality, and if that's the big issue it's not like kids can't exercise to offset the difference. Poor performance in school may occur for a number of reasons but I reckon the onus ought to be on the parents - regardless of their approach to child-rearing - to ensure kids get at the very least nudged toward paths conducive to their long-term success. The enforcement of traditional practices and views, meanwhile, are antithetical to individualism and competitiveness is not something a person needs a great deal of to find satisfaction and a sense of accomplishment in life (though I agree it is possible to be too accommodating or timid for ones own good). On the other hand, maybe it's worth noting that bad parenting happens quite often regardless of approach and that negative consequences ensue?

While I respect your outlook on instilling morals and values, those are communitarian rather than liberal priorities. From the nurturer's perspective, I reckon the conservative archetype for raising kids may seem authoritarian, in conflict with self-determination for the child, and able to offer only conditional love in exchange for conformance that from an early age stifles creativity, curiosity, innovation, and happiness - eventually leading to young adults who have repressed their desires and identities in favor of those forced on them by parents and peers. Or perhaps that outlook is just as misled as the one offered by the OP on liberal parenting. Just my two cents. :)

    AndrewEB:

Aye - and to offer an anecdote my social life probably had a strong role in driving me toward a different set of political perspectives than my parents. The exclusion, abuse, discrimination and so on I found - in addition to the reasons it seemed to be happening - helped foster a lot of resentment on my part toward tradition, social stratification, and the values of mainstream society. I see my parent's role more as having (perhaps unintentionally?) taught me to think independently and treat others well. There are a lot of other forces at work that I am likely not aware of - and it is honestly a bit difficult for me to wade into this discussion without making broad generalizations. There is so much variation in how folks turn out and why!

This "logic" caves in on itself when people who aren't Conservative are hard-working, and self sufficient. I currently work, full time and go to school full time.

But bloody hell, on topic here. Why on Earth are you damning a 8 year old kid? Just from the perspective I have, the kid either has some social disorders or at the very least introverted. Maybe instead of trying to push your political beliefs on a 8 year old kid you try and find some common ground with him. If he enjoys video games, then he might be a at least a little interested in being taken out to a shooting range. Try being an actual role model instead of turning a story of your nephew into some political point.

Reagan adopted his son Michael in a failed attempt to save his marriage with actress Jane Wyman. After their divorce, he pretty much dumped Michael off on her. Desperate for a father figure, Michael came on to a Hollywood pedophile and got molested.

Like always, the best way to raise children is in the middle. Not extreme conservative, not extreme liberal. Teach them work ethic but at the same time teach them that education and knowledge is power. I know many conservatives that do not believe in education and pretty much raise their kids for a life of manual labor. Which there is nothing wrong with that. Living in Alaska has taught me a lot about conservative values. I think if somehow conservatives could accept educated views from the academics a little bit more, they would have a very strong party. But it seems that they feel they have all the answers to life. Like Michelle Bachmann and Sarah Palin think they know more about economics than the smartest economic minds in the world. I find myself as a social conservative with very liberal economic beliefs. And not liberal in the sense that I want to take from the rich to give to the poor, I just think by pure coincidence liberal economic policies are much more efficient for the entire economy.

Long story short, there is no right or wrong way to raise children, but I find that the best people in life are those that are in the middle.

So Ronald Reagan was a worthless, dead beat dad, who wasn't involved in his son's life?
