Should paid government agents be here on PF?

Should paid government agents be here on PF, its a simple question, yes or no, should government propagandist be banned when they are outed?

 

What are you talking about? What governments would waste resources coming to this site?

 

We know that certain governments have paid internet propagandists, I would assume with a site this big, it would be a good spot for it.

I continually get accused of being a hasbara agent by the jew haters, holocaust deniers, white power nationalists, and rabid anti-zionists. Its intended to be malicious but its mostly out of frustration because I am good at exposing their intellectual bankruptcy and slapping down their more outre lies and notions (everybody should have a hobby) .

If there is a way to actually substantiate a claim, then I wouldn't ban them, I'd just identify them for what they are so everyone can immediately tell who they are dealing with.

 

Certain governments do, but they are trying to influence trending on twitter or dominate comments in widely seen news articles, not come here and argue with a bunch of nuts. How would that benefit any government to come here and argue when I don't think a single person's mind has been changed about anything here?

 

1. It would be difficult if not impossible to figure out who is being paid.

2. As long as they follow the TOS then there really isn't a reason why they shouldn't be allowed to. Like it or not they're just as entitled to post.

Poll is confusing. Thread title: "Should paid government agents be here on PF?" Yes or no. But if I think that they should not be here, then I would have to answer Yes to "Ban government agents from posting", which of course is the opposite to my answer to the thread title.

I think they have an inflated opinion of the importance of this site and their own postings.

 

I know you have been accused.. and I think its an idiotic tactic.

 

Paid or unpaid staff are rather easy to spot. First the NEVER say anything bad about their party or their candidate or if they do acknowledge something wrong it is always insignificant and doesn't mean anything. They of course immediately follow it by saying that the other side is even worse. No sane person agrees with their party or candidate 100% of the time so if they do then you know they are staff for the DNC or RNC or some other PAC.

Another clue is that they consistently deny what is considered an obvious truth. The recent rollout of Obamacare is the perfect showcase for this. You can get away with saying that it was just some glitches for the first couple of days but people that are still defending it three weeks after it launched are laughably stupid or partisan propagandists. When Gibbs comes out and says it was a disaster that should be a clue for even the most die hard Obama staffer. Just to be fair I suspect a few people who are either literally partisan whores or are staffers for the some uber conservative PAC as there are some people still defending what Cruz did even though EVERYONE acknowledges at this point that it was an extremely boneheaded move that hurt the GOP.

 

I chose, "Other," because I want their status to be known to all but not banned and not allowed to post as a normal individual.

Let 'em post. If they get outed, they'll just become more cannon fodder. It'll be nice to be able to tell people, "hey, look at this jackhole... he/she gets paid by the administration to spout lies on an internet forum to sway public opinion." Most liberals don't believe this is actually occurring, so it'll be nice to have something to point at. ;P

 

There being no definitive test for whether or not one is a government it would be a bad idea to practice any kind of ban. How do you determine that one has been "outed?" Shall we take the word of a tin-foil-capped conspiracy theorist who claims to have definitive "proof" that something other than a 757 hit the Pentagon, or that the Sandy Hook massacre was a hoax?

I have noticed that a member will tend to be labeled an Agent by any other member that has a completely opposing viewpoint or ideology.

I'd be happy to be paid by somebody. That might justify my time here. And frankly....a paid poster is still probably believing whatever they are posting. So what is the big deal? But ultimately, I agree with Lil Mike that a political forum is a poor choice to put a paid employee.

2. If I was, I'd have a staff helping me with research. I don't.

3. If I was, they would pay for my research materials. I pay for them myself.

My personal opinion is that anyone who makes such an accusation is assuming that the rest of the world is as corrupt as they are.

 

The only government agents on this forum are the one's who monitor sites like this at random.

Why don't you just go ahead and say "Let's ban Liberals," or "Let's ban conservatives" because, failing that, I don't see anyway of determining who's an "agent" or not.

Unless you're suggesting we hack everyone's IP and find out their life history, and I think you're going to be found out and have a big time law suit if you do that. (Or possibly just have the NSA send out REAL agents to kill all the administrators)

 

That's what hasbara agents do. Or, at least, they tell themselves they are exposing intellectual bankruptcy when they really haven't exposed anything except that they are good at jumping to counter-arguments and overcoming objections like any good phone salesman. Are you sure you are not a hasbara agent? It doesn't matter to me if you are, I actually prefer to deal with professionals.

It's so refreshing to just see the posts of sincere truth-seekers on threads. Disinfo agents try to derail discussions and sometimes they just fill up threads with trash posts to make reading it an unpleasant experience so that fewer people will stay and read the whole thing. This also makes the posts with the real info harder to come across as a fifty page thread may only have about six pages of real info in it and it will be scattered.

When I read a thread looking for some good info, I usually have all the shills identified and I just skip their posts but it still makes it harder. They slow down the spread of info which is good for the government.
