Yep, and even the stupid debating we often get instead is still much more fun.

I think 'dislike' is much more enjoyable when it's expressed in words. : )

Because you're a Libertarian who wants to give his users the liberty to choose for themselves? No? Oh well, I tried.

I don't like the idea of a dislike button simply because it can be easily abused by trolls.

It sure would make for a better way to show political bedfellows their post doesn't meet with their fellow's approval without having to criticize them in open forum or the hassle of sending a PM.

    It might save bandwidth.

Sometimes clicking a button is all a post deserves.

If a poster really didn't know how an idea would be received he/she might float a test post and depending on the clicks they generated know if their idea was worth elaborating on...and if so, how that continued convo should go.

No, don't bring back the dislike button. All it does is enable fools.

    Dislike buttons are useless.
Every single post will be dislike-spammed. The only exception will be posts advocating the advantages of bacon.

it can be a good idea if its somehow limited to a few dislikes for a certain time. that way people will only dislike posts they really really dont like, as dislikes are limited. I personally dodnt use it, and i also use likes very sparsely when its really deserved.

i remeber being spammed with dislikes whenever i was in any discussion with johnny c. he'd literally dislike every single post of mine, greatly adding to my dislike count even tho they basically all came from one guy.

also, bring back the like count. fun to see how many likes youve gathered

No. I do not think that you should be able to place people on ignore. I think that when the ignore button is used that person automatically wins.

What? The dislike button is gone? And all this time I just thought I was making awesome posts that no one could disagree with or dislike. :hmm:

Dislike buttons inhibit unpopular thoughts that may be of better quality than the popular ones.
As this Board is about the free exchange of political thoughts, a Dislike button works against it.

    No Dislike
    except :flagcanada: of course.

I would like it back if and I mean IF it also required you to post a reason that is greater the five words and if you are found just typing "blah blah bla" you get banned as the troll you are.

They only inhibit unpopular thoughts if people are afraid of someone clicking "dislike", or the opposite... troll, with the goal of earning them.

The real problem with the dislike is that in all the forums I have been involved in, that had them, they turn into a clique-magnet.

If someone says something against gay rights, all the gays click dislike in support of each other, instead of addressing the comment.
    Same goes for all groups.

So, for that very reason you could never attach punishment based on a "dislike" vote.
Those silly groups would make it a goal to just go thumbs down all the people they don't like, hoping to get them removed.

Most forums remove the dislike button after a while.

The forums I've created allow for "thumbs up" with no name attached, to avoid that clique mentality. "Thumbs down" was of no interest to me.

Guys we have tried this sooooo many times, and in so many ways over the years. It always ends the same way, people abuse it and posters complain. It always gets out of hand, we found the like button works fine, if you do not like the comment then debate the poster, that's why we are here.
