    http://www.cnn.com/2014/10/08/opinion/jones-raven-simone-oprah-black/index.html?hpt=hp_t3

Raven Simone, talented actress and singer, tells Oprah that she sees us all as people, not colors. The author of this OPINION article, on CNN's front page, begs to differ. She plays the race card FOR someone who doesn't see race, but human beings. What a piece of trash.

Just because CNN labels it "Opinion", doesn't mean idiots won't take it as news or truth. BTW, not just calling out CNN, I know Fox does this stuff too for other things.

    Why do we allow this?

The population has been dumbed down, that's why this is allowed to happen.

    Free speech?

I'm not sure why you focus on so-called race-baiting though (and such a relatively mild example at that). There are plenty of much more stupid and much more dangerous things written in opinion columns (among other places) that would be more worthy for such censorship were it legitimate at all.

If people weren't allowed to say stupid things, the silence would drive us insane.

Maybe we should ask why racism is even important to the sole surviving species in the Homo genus.

Because we live in a country with a first amendment that allows for people to speak their mind. There is a whole so-called news agency that spends all day voicing opinion and calling it news. That is just what we have to live with when we want freedom.

..its an opinion you dont have agree with it....

I see skin colour just as I see big noses, hair and eye colour or crooked teeth, fat, short, tall whatever....they're all just physical variations we use to identify each other...

I'm a typical northern euro, tall blue eyed blonde, but you'd never guess I carry black skinned melanesian dna...or my very dark african friend who has northern european dna....I have an interest in my ancestry but no pride in my skin colour that's completely irrelevant like the size of your nose...

So you are saying that News websites should post anything, not just news.

Gotcha. The guy up there was right, we're really dumbing down.

everybody can voice their opinion, even unsubstantiated opinions. I am with the An-Cappers on this one; caveat emptor applies in our modern Information Age.

why not learn to use critical reasoning more effectively.

So then if CNN can post whatever they want, it's not news, it's a blog.

Yes, CNN (like everyone else) can publish whatever they want (within the law obviously). Like most news sites, they'll publish current news stories, deeper reports and factual pieces, letter columns, editorials and opinion pieces, by both staff writers and guest contributors. None of the other things prevent the news stories from being actual news. Indeed, the opinion pieces are often specifically identified as the "opinion of the writer and not necessarily the publication".

If I put a serious post here then a jokey post in a humour section, that doesn't stop this post being serious.

A private organization such as CNN or Fox News. Removing an opinion section violates 0 rights in a private news agency.

Why would they do that? They are a for profit entity. They will do whatever makes them the most profit.

newspapers have always done this...there are serious journalist pieces reporting the facts and then there are editorials/opinion pieces...

I get that, never denied it. But should there be a level of what is said on these pieces? Should the KKK write a story on CNN? Would CNN print it in their opinion section? Neo nazis?

The most obvious issue I picked up, was the guest pundit of CNN started making references about how "non celebrity/regular joe Americans can't choose to be black or not black, as in...it doesn't rub off.

Ummm, the Raven woman didn't say she wasn't black, she stated about the label African American. Sloppy, even for CNN low standards.

yes, as repungent as they are the kkk supporters have an opinion...if cnn employees publicly back such views as reflecting official corporate thinking then that's another matter...media personal should be as unbiased as possible, the media outlet needs to make clear those opinions do not reflect the companies viewpoint....

Free speech. It's a Constitutional right. The downside is we let our government start censoring television shows, where will it stop?

You understand since the beginning of news there have been opinions. At least CNN marks it as such. If you are too troubled to know the difference maybe you should just avoid the website.

Really? If you called CNN and said the head of the klan wants to have his opinion piece published, would they? What if it's considered hate speech? Where do you draw the line? Can you now yell "fire" in a movie theater?

    - - - Updated - - -

WRONG. There are plenty of things not protected by the first amendment. These are PRIVATE news outlets, not government run. Can you drop the F bomb? Can you spew vile hate speech regarding another race? Where's the line drawn, because there is a line.

Actually yes you can yell fire in a crowded theatre. But that is beside the point.

CNN makes a choice about what they want on their page. You can simply avoid them. Why do you think they have to print something from the Klan?
