Welcome to Galveston! Back to dry land, y'all! But not ready to leave the beach yet -- too hot inland. Let's just pull up a bar stool, have a nice cold longneck and hit the jukebox. Looks like a great place for boot-scootin!

Galveston, oh Galveston, I still hear your sea winds blowin'
I still see her dark eyes glowin'
She was 21 when I left Galveston

Galveston, oh Galveston, I still hear your sea waves crashing
While I watch the cannons flashing
I clean my gun and dream of Galveston

I still see her standing by the water
Standing there lookin' out to sea
And is she waiting there for me?
On the beach where we used to run

Galveston, oh Galveston, I am so afraid of dying
Before I dry the tears she's crying
Before I watch your sea birds flying in the sun
    At Galveston, at Galveston

No rain for us. Got a few big ole fluffy clouds that kept us down to only 98 (so far).

    *sees Subby singing Galveston*

Now that looks like a man who can dance... lock the door, g/f. Gonna see if this lil darlin knows how to swing...

G`day sandgroper, where abouts in QLD are you going to? If going up north, stand back from the water, especially at night, crocs have bred to plague proportions. Haven`t been to WA yet, must make it a priority to get there.

That doesn't sound good. Better not get too happy before going to the beach then. Might miss a leg or two after a walk in the moonlight.
How do you take care of the problem, if they take over your beaches?

Hello Shangrila, they do go onto beaches, and many miles out to sea, but the major threats are esturine creeks and rivers, and even fresh water water holes further inland. Having said that, Id never camp on a beach too close to the water. The biggest threat to coastal swimmers is the box jellyfish, whose sting is often fatal. The number of box jellyfish has risen due to the decline in the turtle population, since the rise in the wild pig population, wild pigs dig up and eat turtle eggs, turtles eat jellyfish.

Back to crocs, crocodiles have been protected since the 70`s, since then their numbers have escalated. For example, in the river that my brother learned to water ski in, the Hull, near Tully in North Queensland, a swimmer has virtually 100% chance of being taken by a croc. Esturine crocodiles are the perfect stalking / ambush machine. They mostly operate by observing their prey's habits of going near the water for a few days, then get into position to strike. Crocodiles don't need to eat much, they can easily go without eating for months at a time, which allows them to exist in huge numbers. A few of the cardinal rules in avoiding crocodile attack are:

    1. Don't establish a pattern of going near the water.
    2. Don't expect to see them, if they're hunting, you won't.
    3. Never dump fish offal, bait etc. near boat ramps, camp sites etc.
    4. Always bear in mind that they're perfectly at home in fresh water.

Having said all that though, the worst crocodiles are the two legged bastards.

Best to let nature do what nature does best.
But for now, I need a drink, or I'll have croc nightmares.

LM,I'll put a quarter in the jukebox for now, if that's ok.

Took Mom back to the hosp on Friday. I've slept since then, haven't I?
Hard Naugahyde chairs and a new interruption every 20 mins.

Everyone knows what bone-tired feels like, yeah?

Mind if I have a sit over there, Smartie? jez for a minute...
