As for speech, had a problem getting in front of people too. Now that they pay me for it, not so much.
When I get the jitters, I picture them all sitting there in big bloomers, or nekkid, and start relaxing immediately.

 

I may pursue that eventually...

It wouldn't hurt...

However, the Criminal justice degree is what I really want, so, that's my main focus for now...

Getting in front of people terrifies me...lol

I get a lot of jokes because I can get on stage and perform when me & my folks do a show, and it doesn't bother me in the least, but, I stutter uncontrollably when I have to give a speech... *shrug*

I may try the picturing people nekkid thing, since I hear that works, but, that's probably gonna depend on the occupants of the room...lol

 

You don't look for the cute girls, lol. It just serves as a reminder that all those 'critical' faces are all the same underneath, a way of picturing them as less intimidating, esp when some of the boss men ( or in your case instructors) are in the audience.

 

Can't I do both? Lol...

 

Well, if Really People? went to my college there was no worrying about cute girls...
because there weren't any.

What will you do with a Criminal Justice degree? Be a police officer?

For now, I still have about 10 1/2 years left before I retire from the AF...

But, I think I'd like to use it as an analyst or investigator or something to that effect...

 

Don't let that bother you. After a while, the butterflies go bother someone else. If you prepare to the point that, if you don't know the subject cold, you at least know more than the audience, that helps. I think it's important to READ your speech out loud (to yourself, of course) first, perhaps the day before giving it. That helps avoid difficult sentences. Also, keep your sentences short. This helps with breath control, which is more important than a lot of people realize. If you screw up a sentence, it doesn't hurt to stop for about 5 seconds, laugh, and say something like "Well, I messed up that sentence. Let's try it again, this time in English." This often gets a laugh, which relaxes you, and tends to make for a more friendly audience. If you're the one giving the speech, then YOU'RE THE ONE IN CHARGE. Go for it.

Speech isn't bad. You'll just be talking in front of a bunch of kids who aren't paying attention to you anyway
I used to get nervous about making presentations in classes, but then I realized the only person paying attention is my professor. So now I just look at the professor most of the time, ignore everyone else, and just pretend it's a "conversation" between myself and the professor. Calms my nerves a lot if I do that.

Or I give myself a "you're hot (*)(*)(*)(*)" pep talk.

 

I hope you guys are correct and I can flip my nervousness on someone else and refocus...
