Deleting flame baiting isn't censoring.
Your 'thoughts' can be controversial, but you must present them in a way that leads to a discussion, instead of just emotionally charged responses.
Don't forget, we are not talking about the U.S., but a privately owned forum, and rules apply.
Think about it like this.
You invite your friends and neighbors to a potluck dinner.
You don't care which dish they bring, but it must be eatable.

 

i work as much as I can and many Mods have had some reasons for not being here lately , the thread started about race are not against the rules and we can not delete them just because someone doesn't like them , I honestly wish I could address each and every report but I only have so many hours a day and I work a full time job and a side business, If you are disgusted with a thread let it die, don't post in it , poorly written and racist threads will die quickly if you let them

But we have folks calling blacks "nigs" obviously short hand for (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*) and that's not against the rules?

But me pointing out they are racists would get me permabanned?

Honestly, with the way the rules are applied in this place I have to wonder what the intent is.

 

I think we have to accept responsibility for our own forum moderation.

When something is especially offensive, report it to the moderators.
Do not respond.
Personally I am here to respond and to "discuss" with other members. If all I wanted to do was shout into a well I've several means for typing my ideas and casting them into oblivion.

We punish the violators by not responding. They want a response and they want it to be as vile as their "bait." Deny it to them. Ignore them and ignore their threads.

They will get bored with one another and either change their behavior or go away.

Be your own forum moderator.

 

This, today, on one thread, over a few pages, from one poster. Why the hell is this poster still here? Despicable racist flamebaiter. And no one gives a (*)(*)(*)(*).

I've already said elsewhere that if we're not allowed to call anyone racist, then no one should be allowed to use the term "non-racist" in a derogatory way, either. It works both ways.

So what? Having racist views is not against the site rules. What gives you the moral authority to make those views against the rules, here?

 

It seems fine for racists to promote their hate and vitrol, but forewarned -- call out a racist for their vile spew and you'll be permabanned.

I feel a permaban coming on. I really don't want to participate in a board that harbors and coddles racists and bans those who stand up to them.

 

Obviously it's not. Racist behavior seems perfectly accepted here, and they are even a protected class -- calling a racist a racist will get you permabanned.

But I think - if I understand the rules - this 'person' avoided the name-calling rules by not referring to anyone in particular.

Though how he escaped the flamebaiting rule is beyond me.

I make an off-hand insult against Dick Cheney - a public figure which the rules say we can insult if we wish - and my comment is stricken.
And I have seen MANY other examples of the mods calling tame posts of public figures as 'flamebaiting'.

But apparently this above racist, flamebaiting crap is fine.

Pretty much there's also been so many anti Muslim and homophobic garbage bring spewed before hand. The thread doesn't have to ad hear to freedom of speech especially when it already doesn't. The owner seems like they're fine with the website becoming a site for bigoted circle jerking.
They should add more mods if they don't have enough but for now any (*)(*)(*)(*) thread that is clearly flamebaiting i avoid and there are far to many of them already tolerated.

Internet forums like these were lost to trolls and flame-baiters years ago. It's no use trying to reestablish a semblance of civility and order. It's long gone.

However if someone only shows interest in flame baiting and not actually discussion then ban them.

And don't bring up censoring if you allow hate speech but won't allow someone to refer to them as a racist if you want a two way street make it one by allowing personal insults as well as the under handed insults.

That is so, but when the buttons the mods have is telling members they will be perma-ban for calling racists racists while allowing members call black folks "nigs" is what leads us to wonder what buttons it is that they want pushed.

It is simply arbitrary to have a rule that says you cannot call a racist a racist while allowing members to be called libturds and leftninnies and socialists and communists and marxists and all the other labels that are thrown about constantly without admonishment.

Why are racists getting special protection, or people who don't like that label?

To be fair, you either allow all descriptive labels, or you have a rule that says you want polite and meaningful discussion, and prohibit all insulting comments about members or groups.

 

That could also be a matter of perception, because members can't possibly know if another has been called upon for rule violations, unless you see a 'banned'.
"Will be", is a warning, and others may receive the same warning without you knowing about it.
