    Economics and mutual defense are extremely intertwined. I can't see any situation in which Germany exits NATO, and despite the manufacturing juggernaut that is US industry, we can't simply meet domestic demand, and are a huge importer.

    It's much easier to find new suppliers than new buyers.

    The Greeks brought their economic misery upon themselves, and placed themselves in a position where Germany needed to bail them out. Those pensioners would have starved either way.

    But I can't argue that Trump is an economic illiterate

    Maybe Trump just doesn’t think Germany is important.
    If it weren’t for you, I probably would rarely even remember that Germany exists. And yeah, your country isn’t that important to us. Also, your own posts show that you are a crappy ally.

    You greatly exaggerate Germany's importance. Their landmass was the front line ofvthe cold war.

    We are smart. AfD was pro Trump in first weeks of his presidency. It backlashed for us. Trump has such a negative image in Germany that our rivals said we are like Trump. This had negative effect. When AfD became anti trump, this was reversed.

    I'm almost afraid of a US leader that is adored over seas. Is that leader promising to sell our country out in their favor? Trump has pointed out, correctly, that the US is doing the heavy lifting of defending Europe from a Soviet Union that no longer exists. It is good to let them know the party is coming to an end.

    I don't see any reason why Trump would either need or want to visit Germany, especially while Merkel is in power. So unless there is a G8 summit in Berlin or its some stopover for a Putin Summit, he's probably not going to.
