How much damage did Newsome's disastrous performance against Desantis last night do his future presidential chances? Conversely how much did Desantis' dismantling of Newsome help his cause?
It doesn't actually matter to liberal folk. Newsome is royalty in the democratic party. he's right up there with Robert Francis.... It doesn't matter how stupid Gavin looked on TV. No one will remember, and the MSM including fox seems to think Gavin's the guy. Go figure...
I didn't watch it either. why bother? From the news accounts of the "debate", homelessness and poop did make the conversation.
I thought that all of the commenters over evaluated DeSantis' performance and under evaluated Newsom's performance. In a Newsom/DeSantis stand off, DeSantis would have his hands full. He needs to keep debating because he needs to get better at it. He gets frustrated when his opponent just outright lies, when that's what they do. He should watch Ronald Reagan Clips. Every time Jimmy Carter Lied While a significant portion of the audience will look and listed for the actual figures and measurements, and equally significant portion will look to see who looks more at ease, composed, and confident. I think improvements there would move DeSantis from acceptable to top rate.
He's driving them across the border. My home value has tripled over the last 12 years because of them. Give the Ken doll my thanks.
Even during mass exodus ? How's the housing situation ? Do you have homeless people in California ? Cause vermont not so good.
They're voting today to see if he gets expelled from congress. Matt gaetz wants to recall speaker Johnson to help the democrats ( Liz cheney).
I understood your comment to mean you live in California. How else would you know what Newsom is doing? I don't live in California. I live across the border, like I said. Yes, Californians have been moving here for some time. They have pushed home values very high. Very quickly. My mother's home has probably quadrupled in value since she bought it in 2011. Mine, in an older, settled neighborhood has only tripled, but I'm happy. Very nice for homeowners. Not so nice for buyers. Why your interest in Newsom and California, a place you don't live?
Newsom drooled over Biden and Harris - that and he lied a lot and I mean a lot. Plus he avoided answering questions and went his merry way with his answers.
I went to school in Eugene. I don't live in vermont anymore. With the size of your economy you think your not of interest, to the rest of your fellow states. Are you interested in any other states, since you live in Oregon Nevada Arizona or... Mexico ? I could live there if I want to, not the cities though. Tell Kendoll...
The pary of sweeping generalizations & non sequitur platitudes. Mr. Vice president was benghazi a massive intelligence failure... Biden.. " what it was was a tradgety.. Ok.. next question blah blah blah Biden... we weren't told the asked for more help. Paul Ryan jaw drop... And the media laps up the monsters gospel. It's a way of life for these people, will continue unless we break the spell of bottofeeder journalism.
It probably helped Newsome to get his mug on national TV, although he insists he is not running. From what I read, there were no winners or losers as far as the actual debate goes, although the mod was 100% in DeSantis camp. Personally I dont care for either guy. DeSantis is toast as far as 2024 is concerned, but I think he will have a long career in US politics in Congress or Senate and maybe even WH in 12-16 yrs. He is young, and has time to learn from his mistakes. Of course. Its DeSantis loves talking about poop, except when it comes to poop and needles in Florida homeless encampments.
We've done pretty well. I don't know where the money is coming from, but the city has cleaned up the streets fairly well. Other communities have adopted these ModPods, and they've been successful here. New modular housing units to give some Reno homeless people sense of stability | KRNV (mynews4.com) We're doing better than I thought. Reno Is Beating the Odds in Solving Homelessness (msn.com) The city teamed with Sparks, a neighboring city, and surrounding Washoe County to build a Nevada Cares Campus in 2021 that could accommodate more than 600 people in a giant tent and satellite sleeping pods. Since that year, the number of homeless living on the street has plummeted to 329 this year from 780, according to annual point-in-time counts. The 58% drop is striking when compared with many other Western cities which have seen their unsheltered homeless populations grow or stagnate since the pandemic, amid soaring drug addiction and a federal appeals-court order that prevents cities in the region from clearing streets without providing enough beds. California has spent about $20 billion over the last five years to combat the problem, yet still has half the nation’s unsheltered homeless. In 2018, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit found removing anyone camping in a public space in its Western U.S. jurisdiction when there isn’t a shelter bed for them constitutes cruel and unusual punishment. That has made it difficult for cities such as Los Angeles and San Francisco to clear their streets. Reno, though, has begun enforcing no-camping rules now that it has sufficient beds. As a result, the downtown casino district that used to be overrun with homeless has far fewer. “They are really cleaning it up,” nearby resident Victoria Raffetto said on a stroll there one day in mid-November. “I used to hate to come down here unless I had to.”
So, who claims that DeSantis won the debate? Fox News? Surprise, surprise... I didn't watch it, but knowing that Hannity was the "moderator", I'd guess that the deck was heavily stacked against Newsome. Maybe he felt suicidal when agreed to this debate? Now, let's wait for a rematch with Maddow as the "moderator". I don't think DeSantis would agree.
As I’ve been saying DeSantis isn’t ready for primetime and it showed in the debate. He should bow out of his Presidential run to try and salvage his career before Iowa. He’s too plastic and inauthentic at this point.
I don't know. Florida has 3rd most homeless in the nation, and as a resident I can tell you there are quite a few, and its annoying to see them beg for money at every traffic light. They don't do anything about them in FL, so maybe DeSantis doesn't have a leg to stand on when it comes to that issues
It makes sense that the warmer parts of the country would have a lot of homeless people. But dang, it can get pretty cold in San Francisco.
Not that cold, but its true that warm FL winter makes it easier for the homeless. We have a saying "the scum settles on the bottom" (=South Florida) https://www.google.com/search?q=ave...xNjgxNGoxajeoAgCwAgA&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
