Again let me note my inclusion of BR's politics into his critique of science fiction programming.....and ask how it was "insulting"???

Thought it had a LOT of promise - especially with Joss Wedon in the drivers seat

But of course there is always the longest running show on TV

I thought the first season of TNG was really stiff and boring. It got better.

DS9 ended up being the best of all the Trek series. Plenty of low-quality filler episodes, but the overall story arc and final season were excellent.

Unlike Blackrook, I don't need religion to generate drama. There were plenty of episodes that focused on murky questions of right or wrong.

The series, all of them but Enterprise gave us some great characters. Spock, Q, Garak, Dax, Odo, Dukat, Mccoy, Data, 7 of 9, Janeway, and Picard. Some great threats like the Borg, Dominion, 8742. all of them except enterprise made good television.

There's always a line between the "Enterprise" groups (original and TNG) and the voyager/DS9 folks. the first two saw the universe as a hopeful place where we would meet different races and work through our issues honorably and peacefully. The next two saw the universe as a much darker place where, at times, good intentions must be sacrificed in favor of survival and where, quite often the lines between good and evil are blurred.

My favorite is the original. It opened my eyes to Sci Fi. The best, DS9. I just love the Cardashians and watching Odo's evolution was wonderful.

My apologies to the Enterprise fans. Sorry. It contained neither the wonder of the first two nor the hard edge of the second two.

Yes thats the show. A very honest portrayal of the life of a USMC officer. A good number of future Star Trek actors pop up in the show and the lead went on to be Dick Poole in 2001

    The Doctor rocks.

But seriously, where can they go after Amy Pond?

And who doesn't want to spank River Song a little?

That clip was like an outer space version of Baywatch. All it needed was slowing down the action and adding porno music.

But the last season of Enterprise was pretty good. They got some new creative people in and made a show that the fans could enjoy. And thanks to the Time War, I can pretend the first couple of seasons never happened!

Why? I mean I disagree with BR's opinion of TNG but that's no reason to wish horrible things on him.

    Try DS9 instead.

And speaking of, here is a clip from the original series that shows a perfect example of Game. Nerds, take note.

Of course, it's easier to pull off Alpha Game when you are genetically engineered to be an Alpha.

The only thing Voyager had going for it, IMO, was a female Captain played by a kick ass actress. Otherwise I couldn't stand any of the crew. They just didn't seem to meld like the original crew or the TNG crew or even the DS9 crew. I love Kate Mulgrew and have since she was on the soap opera Ryan's Hope and she made Captain Janeway a force to be reckoned with in a way the male captains of the other two starships and Sisco of DS9 never did. That said: the crew sucked and once 7 of 9 came on and basically ate the show, I knew Voyager wouldn't last too long. A lot of people liked the hologram dr but to me it was a rip off of Data in TNG. Data was an android who wanted to experience humanity and the Dr on Voyager was a holographic image who wanted to be real. Plus it just didn't make sense to me to trust the health of the crew of a starship to a hologram image. If something happened and hologram didn't or couldn't be used...the entire ship would be without medical care. Nope didn't make a lick of sense to me. Best episode was the one in which Q showed up and then his wife showed up who incidentally was played by the same woman who played Worf's wife, the half Klingon K'hlar on TNG and there was a nice little nod to the Klingon K'hlar on the Voyager episode. BUT while I wouldn't miss and episode of TNG...I found myself not watching Voyager regularly after about 6 months.

The Sci Fi show I really liked was Farscape. Claudia Black and her guns?Almost as good as Helen Mirren and her guns in Red and Red 2!

    DS9 -> Original series -> TNG -> Enterprise -> Voyager

DS9 was my favorite because it didn't portray everything as happy go lucky as TNG did. There were some dark episodes in TNG but they were to few and far between to make up for all the episodes that were just boring as hell. One of my favorite DS9 episodes was "Pale Moonlight" which ironically didn't have any of the big ship battles that I also loved about the series. However it was very well written and showed that when your back is pressed against the wall even Starfleet will do shady things to get the job done.

Even though Gene Roddenberry created both the Original series and TNG they were very different shows. You saw alot more action and shooting on the Original series while TNG was mostly just "blah blah........bend me over.......blah blah........we only want peace" BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORING!!!

Enterprise had a good premise but for some reason it just didn't click for me.........oh wait I know exactly why it didn't click for me. They picked Scott Bakula for the role as captain. Worst casting choice EVER.

Voyager just sucked radioactive donkey balls.

Has anyone else noticed that the first four serieses had these amazing, rousing instrumental theme songs then wham-o, along comes Enterprise with this weird, rock/folk style song with SINGING! What the hell is that about! (Ok, TOS had the "ah-ahs" going on, but no words were being sung). I think that was everyone's first clue of the suck that was to come.

Kate Mulgrew is currently in Orange Is The New Black, playing a butchie Russian mobster prisoner who runs the kitchen. I can't decide if I like her Russian accent or not.

Voyagers crew wasn't supposed to meld. Since they were made up of Starfleet and Maqui terrorists, there was supposed to be tension and distrust among the crew. The problem was the jettisoned that concept and just made them all love-and-togetherness Starfleet.

The holographic doctor wasn't supposed to be the ship's doctor. He was a backup since the real ship's doctor was killed.

I really liked Scorpious(sp)...he was a kick ass villain if I ever saw one! But for me: Claudia Black/Aeryn Sun made the show. Gorgeous feisty woman with BIG guns...what's not to like? :)

It was nice how they brought her and Criton into the Stargate SG-1 Show.

    Here's a bit of little-known trivia...

The original series was supposed to be much more like TNG in feel. In fact, they even produced a pilot that I don't believe has been seen publicly. The TV studio rejected it because they wanted more of a space western feel to it. So, they created a second pilot, and that went on to be TOS that everyone knows. Roddenberry didn't really want all that action, but the studio wouldn't let him make the show if he didn't add it.

Once it was time to make TNG, it had become a popular established franchise, and Roddenberry was able to make the show he originally wanted.

All that said, I always enjoyed TNG the best.

Actually, the original pilot, titled "The Cage", became the two-part episode, "The Menagerie" in TOS.

The Star Treks I enjoyed best were the latter parts of both DS Nine and ST Enterprise, where they managed to surpass the 'problem of the week' formula in favor of more complex 'galactic conflict' story arcs. Voyager was disappointing in that the main big-story-arc obstacle was just distance, which was boring. And the Heavy Metal Borg Queen was never a believable arch-villain to me--like, how did the Borg get onto that trip? Shouldn't the Borg central executive, by the logic of their culture, be a whole bunch of brains augmented together in a box?

But TNG was certainly the best realization of Roddenberry's vision, which was fascinating, creative, and not-without some blind spots and odd notions....
