So I went to Walmart today and bought some light bulbs. I did not search online about lights or light bulbs prior to my purchase. When I cam home and looked on the internet, the side bar had an advertisement about light bulbs. I purchased my light bulbs earlier with a debit card. How pervasive is information flow and am I just paranoid?
No, I don't think you're paranoid. There's just something weird, supernatural and uncanny about advertising that pops up on computer screens. In your case, about the light bulbs, advertisers could tell from your debit card that you bought some. The other day, I was just thinking about putting some insecticide fogger on my shopping list, and about two hours later all kinds of side-bar advertisements for insecticides showed up on my computer, including Raid Yard Guard. I bought some of that. Sometimes I suspect these incidents are either the result of supernatural forces, or the damned Internet can read minds. Congress should investigate and do something about dat.
So does my auto insurance company know I am buying a six pack of beer? Does my neighbor's health insurance company know they are buying 3 lbs. of butter and a carton of cigarettes?
