Microchips are indispensable in modern society, as no car or domestic appliance can do without them. But also our military defense, as no rocket can launch, no battleship can sail, and no plane can fly without chips!!

90% of chip production comes from Taiwan, as the modern West, although still capable of designing chips, has lost the capability of manufacturing them in giant masses.

The US and EU are doing something about it, hurrying to build mass fabs themselves, but my guess is it will take at least 5 years before being somewhat less dependent on Taiwan for chip production. So right now, our economy and military modernization depend on Taiwan, unfortunately.

Taiwan has the status of being part of greater China and at the same time not really. With its own government and own policy, the island has reached a level of prosperity comparable with the US and EU, and China more or less let them do their thing.
This status quo, although not ideal, can last for many more years. We see that China's policy so far is conquering the world in an economic sense, but not by warfare the Putin way.

Of course, if we threaten to rip away Taiwan entirely from China, we are likely to provoke them into military actions against the island. This would lead to a worldwide chips crisis, devastating our modern economy and military security.
Playing around with Taiwan's current status quo is therefore very dangerous!

Some politicians don't understand this, like Pelosi with her idealistic view so far away from realism. She keeps stabbing her little daggers into the pride of the Chinese government, p*ss*ng them off to a dangerous level.
And no one seems to hold her back. Apparently, we live in a democracy where unthoughtful politicians can't be held accountable when risking our economy.

Taiwan is not a part of China and has been independent for many years. China is just trying to take over the world while using force to take over Taiwan would help China control 90% of chip making worldwide. Then, China can continue their path of world domination and also controlling entire China Sea while absorbing the rest of the Asian continent to be under their power over time. Is this what you want? Pelosi should go visit our allies and not let China dictate every single thing we can and cannot do. If China takes Taiwan, Philipines or Japan is next.
