He said they should donate to charity. You want their money for your own programs. Different.

The IP argument is ludicrous. In any event, Shakespeare was commissioned. Do you want only government commissioned works now? Only the music the richest people like? Who would make a movie if everyone is allowed to bootleg it, even the theaters? This is too far left to bother with so I will leave it at that. Not even rightwingfraud would agree with you on this , but I have underestimated Lefters before.

How is it different if private charity only covers "a multitude of sins" but can never actually solve simple poverty in our republic.

I believe that the right is being very disingenuous in their arguments regarding poverty being an Individual issue instead of an Institutional issue. Simply requiring an extra-legal and Iron Age work ethic is a case in point in any at-will employment State; while, the wealthiest are "earning" record profits due to public policies enacted by our elected representatives.

Has there ever been a decade companies have not made "record" profits? What is your solution then? More government?

Actually, my solution is to simplify our social safety nets to lower our tax burden.

Our tax burden is the lowest it has been in 6 decades. And the richest 1% now control 40% of the nation's wealth and 20% of the nation's income. Instead of cutting back programs that help out the struggling poor and middle classes, maybe we should consider raising taxes a bit and not borrow so much money.

I meant it in a more "traditional" manner and fashion. Not many object to lowering our tax burden, but only the right wants to lower our tax burden by reducing social spending on the least wealthy, by eliminating social safety nets for free.
