Great show. Saw the first episode Monday night. It takes place on the future. A hispanic family, lives in the future where everything has been destroyed by a nuclear attack (Terminator). They find a way to travel back in time 60 million years back to the age of the dinosaurs. I saw the first episode and it was really cool. It's Jurassic park meets Avatar. I hope it doesn't get cancelled, I plan to watch it.

Do they explain how they get around the barrier of matter duality?
In that, since matter can not be created or destroyed, then the matter that we are made up of oday also existed 60 million years ago. And, since that matter already exists, are we reintroducing the same matter in an earlier point within our time line, OR as we travel back in time, are we assembled with the matter that already exist in our destination point? And, if the latter is the case, what happens to the structures that are made up of the matter needed for our existence when we come need of that matter through chronological dilation?

Because, this has been bugging me for centuries.

For starters they went back 85 million years. For another there were only avian dinosaurs 60 million years ago so it couldn't have been set 60 million years ago.

Everything exists within its own frame of reference.

No they don't. Same as in the terminator series. they never explain it.

Its not real man. it's scifi. here's more.

The show begins in the year 2149, a time when all life on planet Earth is threatened with extinction due to dwindling worldwide air quality and overpopulation. At Hope Plaza, a massive ring shaped structure in Chicago, scientists discover a rift in space-time that allows people to travel 85 million years back in time to the Late Cretaceous period on the prehistoric Earth of an alternate reality, offering a chance to save humanity. The Shannon family (father Jim, his wife Elisabeth, and their three children Josh, Maddy and Zoe) join the tenth pilgrimage of settlers to Terra Nova, the first human colony on the other side of the temporal doorway.

I'll watch the first episode to see what I think. Sounds a little far fetched though, but interesting enough. We'll see. It is being heavily promoted here
I assume it will air during non ratings seasons, though, which starts in a few weeks - meaning ratings don't matter, and the network doesn't really care if a show is popular or not.

It has an actor from Avatar, not the actor from Avatar.

Over here, if a first episode rates well, or they want to really promote it, they tend to air an 'encore' episode, usually during the afternoon on the weekend or late at night on a weekday.

Check your TV guide because it might pop up again sometime in the week.

My wife and I had been looking forward to Terra Nova for weeks and made sure to watch it on Sunday.

The plus- visually it is good. Some of the story line is well thought out. I thought the very beginning was very strong. The actor who played the out of control Colonel in Avatar is very good.

They drop hints about the scientific rational- that going back in time creates a new time stream, which is why going back doesn't change the future.

But....my wife and I just couldn't get past some of the more prepostorous and predictable situations. Like when the teenagers were attacked in the car, and one girl panicks and tries to run back- even though the dinosaurs were all around. Or when the take the new doctor and the new 'policeman' out in the search party even though they have no experience or training yet for the issues of the new planet.

I thought the introduction of the conspiracy and break off group was too early in the series- I think they should have spent somemore time introducing us to the rest of the Colony- how it works, how they survive, what their plan is.

And why oh why don't the Dinosaurs seem particularly affected by the Colonists firepower? Seems like someone would have had the foresight to bring some high caliber big game rifles or 50 cal sniper rifles or even grenade launchers or rpg's. But I know visually they want to show lots of people blasting away with automatic weapons.

So....we will watch it again this Sunday, hoping the writing settles in and is less formulaic. I want a good show about time travel and dinosaurs- I want this to turn out good. But I didn't think it was that for the first show.

    Monday- my bad on that.

And as much as I really, really want to like a TV show that has good dinosaurs, this weeks attack of the "killer chickens" was pretty hilariously bad.

After last week's episode, the one lesson we learned well was that don't go out after dark becuase there are nasty dinosaurs out there. This week starts off with them sending out three victims in a dune buggy with no doors after dark to resupply some outpost.

It gets worse from there. Why would a colony surrounded by dinosaurs build their houses out of rice paper(slight exageration)? No bunkers to retreat to if there is a problem? And how come after the leader of the colony tells everyone to stay locked down inside(during the attack of the killer chickens) why does everyone rush outside as soon as they can't hear the chickens?

The dialogue is weak, the actions are predictable, and nothing much makes sense.

I don't think I will watch it again. Such a dissapointment.

Saw the premiere on Hulu, and, since I got too busy Monday night, guess I'll be doing the same with episode 2...

    Enjoyed the first episode though...

    One note though...

The CG was pretty low quality...

But, alot of shows in their first season are like that...

If it gets successful, they'll get more money and pick their game up...

I have to disagree with you on this. the show was great/amazing. It's a scifi show, you have to leave logic out of it. it's supposed to be fun and entertaining. It's not a soap opera or a drama on CBS. They are not chickens, more like birds, like a takeback to the movie BIRDS by Alfred Hitchcock.

Terra Nova is a metaphor for America. It's basically America in it's beginning and the hope we had as a nation. You will have religion, war, separation and enemies. And NATIVES.

the show also is a metaphor for the border problem. If you notice some of the women and children look mexican and the Main guy becomes a security officer to protect that border around terra nova. The entire show is about america and the problems it faced.

Different timelines/universes. So nothing they do in the past effects their future.

So I guess you can move as much matter back and forth as you want.

I did like the show. But I don't think it'll last more than one season. The pilot costs 16 million and episodes are 4 million a piece. Unless the show is in the top 10 in the ratings, it can't make it to another season. So it will probably be replaced with a reality show.

I did a review of it here:

Three episodes in so far, still not a bad show. Not as good as I was hoping, considering I waited so long to watch it. It just sounds a little unrealistic. They are in the past, yet they have all this equipment you'd find millions of years in the future.
I know they've transported everything from the present to the past, but still...everything is a little too perfect...
