A Texas House committee on Thursday unanimously voted to recommend that state Attorney General Ken Paxton be impeached and removed from office.

The state House of Representatives could vote on the recommendation as soon as Friday.

The five-member GOP-led investigative committee met Wednesday to discuss the allegations of wrongdoing against Paxton, a fellow Republican and the state's top lawyer.

Investigators for the House General Investigating committee told the panel there was evidence that Paxton had repeatedly broken state laws, including misuse of official information, abuse of official capacity and retaliation.

Well well... so a few Republicans DO understand the concept and purpose of impeachment.... removing corrupt officials... Shocking!!! Who knew?

BTW, it's not in this article, but the number of impeachment counts is TWENTY (20)...

This guy has been dirty since his first election win, but it's Texas, so he's able to win 2 more elections before somebody decided to do something...

Of course, there's a near zero chance the full House will vote to impeach, but it sounds like support of corruption won't be 100% GOP supported, so it's a start I guess??

Wow. You know it's bad when even his own party is recommending impeachment.

This will be ignored, of course. The average republican voter doesn't care if their elected officials are corrupt as long as they are republicans.

This guy has needed removed for a while now. It's good to see that not all the GOP in Texas are Trump sycophants who are perfectly happy with their fellow politicians being corrupt.

The GOP still has a future where they have integrity and purpose and can actually claim to be moral, they just need to get out from under the Trump boulder.

In a way, it would be easier for the GOP to return to sanity and start having standards again than it will be for the Democrats. The Democrats don't have a singular man who has put their entire brand in the garbage and pissed all over it like the Republicans do with Trump.I never knew how palatable the Pre-MAGA version of Republicans were until Trump and his ilk showed us just how much worse they can get.

Meanwhile, the Democrats are locked in place by the internet virtue signalers and social justice warriors who seem to be the only drivers of party policy, which is why they are so disconnected from reality. Anybody relying on the morons on the internet to direct you is going to fail right from the start because the morons on the internet aren't thinking about what needs to be done to run a country. They're only thinking about what makes them feel good, what they can virtue signal about, and being a contrarian while trying to fool everyone else into thinking they stand for progress. MAGA and the Fake Patriot Caucus are quickly turning into this as well.

No you don’t, it’s a political tool to remove people you disagree with in the Dems eyes.

lol If that were the case it would have been used a lot more, for a lot longer. Technically it's an even split between Reps and Dems. Clinton for the Reps, Trump for the Dems.

We fully understand what it is for.
It's the Republicans who seem to have difficulty with the concept.

Really? Was there an impeachment of Bush? Was there an impeachment of Desantis? Was there an impeachment of Alito, Kavanaugh, Thomas, Roberts?

Please tell me where there has been an impeachment of ANYONE simply because Democrats "disagreed" with them?

Typical progressive "off to the Gulag with you" approach to attack political opponents.... You seem to have already identified a few. I mean, none of you like the opinions from SCOTUS judges, and here you are attacking them specifically.

I am absolutely floored by the irony here. I mean it, I am staring at the screen, mouth open because I cannot believe that you apparently cannot see the irony here.

PROGRESSIVE "off to the Gulag with you"????? Are you for real?????

Does the chanting of "Lock her up" remind of something?

If impeached would he have to finally stand for trial on his felony indictment?

Don't want to hijack my own thread, but while we await the impeachment vote.... funny burn on George (or whatever he's calling himself these days) from Ken Jennings on Jeopardy

    SNIP
During the episode, one of the answers in the category of “recent events” read, “Subheads in a piece on this N.Y. Rep.: ‘Lied about where he went to…college’; ‘Allegedly Swindled a disabled vet whose dog was dying.’”

The correct question, of course, concerns the infamous serial liar from New York: “Who Is George Santos?” And it was contestant Mattea Roach who gave it to Jennings.

In a tone that implied he’d been waiting all night to drop the line, Jennings replied, “I don’t get to say this very much, but George Santos is correct.” Cue the laughter and applause from the contestants and studio audience.

Here's something I didn't know about this situation...

    SNIP
Notably, Paxton’s wife, Sen. Angela Paxton, R-McKinney, serves in the upper chamber.

She was mentioned in the hearings as ethics investigators told the three Republicans and the Democrats on the committee how in exchange for doing political favors, the Paxtons received high-end home renovations.

“Sen. Angela Paxton did not like the counters and wanted to change them,” said Erin Epley, lead ethics investigator. “The contractor advises that that upgrade will cost $20,000. General Paxton indicates that he’d like to proceed, and the contractor, according to the employee, their response was ‘I’ll have to check with Nate.’”

Sen. Angela Paxton’s office did not respond to Spectrum News’ requests for further comment or questions if she would recuse herself should such impeachment proceedings transpire.

Well, at least you admit to being shocked that someone might actually call you on your own eagerness to put political opponents in the klink.... As for irony, no, I don't see it. It's authoritarian tyranny that drives the left these days. And instead of chanting things like "lock her up", y'all send in the jack booted thugs and perp walk innocent folks out of their homes. Send the IRS to bully folks, Send the FBI off looking at private conversations using illegal search warrants. I mean for f's sake, there's actually a list. That you new sound wounded because folks might actually challenge you... it's like the scene in a slavery movie where the plantation marm gets all offended when the help didn't polish a spoon correctly...

I'm not eager to put "political opponents in the klink", I'm eager to put corrupt politicians who broke the law in the klink.
The fact that you can't see the difference is part of the problem.

I'm not sure I'll live long enough to see a funnier line than "the Texas House's war on Republicans"

    https://twitter.com/PatrickSvitek/status/1662131621191925761/photo/1

The Texas House is DOMINATED by Republicans.... although it apparently contains both types of the species...

The Ethics committee was 3/5 Republicans

How STUPID does the state GOP think Texans are??

Nobody attempt to answer that.... there isn't one...

Thanks for being honest. We all knew, to the left, it wasn't for removing corrupt democrats, only corrupt republicans. I'm just surprised at your honesty.
