It is why getting Socratic with them makes so much more sense than merely appealing to emotions.

Or more sensible ---- Deal with each issue separately, if the players involved have bent the law and it can be proven that they have mostly self interest involved let it play out in the facts.

It seems to me that if a group of politicians wanted to manipulate public funds for their own benefit there first act would be to accuse others of it.

What better way to free up funds for your own use than to defund your opponents programs?

Better still, once you have clearly labeled your opponents "political croneys" any accusation against you loses its validity.

It is why philosophy may be more "moral" and is more ethical than Religion, simply because the person who resorts to the fewest fallacies should always win.

True, but its hard to use the socratic method when none of the people involved in the debate accept any neutral authority.

I have read people on this forum argue that the scientific method should be questioned. How can we, or why should we, prove anything if proving things is not important?

Everything seems to eventually boil down to emotionalism when you are dealing with an unfiltered public forum.

It may be more about taking the more ethical, if not more "moral high ground".

Whether or not America is in decline, we are still far ahead of every other nation by a wide margin in most areas.
