    As we head into Independence Day weekend, we thought we could find inspiration from our Founding Fathers. These men unabashedly looked to God for guidance, and gave clear warning of our nation’s fate if we turned away from the Lord.

    Thomas Jefferson: Our Nation’s Our Poet-Philosopher
    In our guiding document, the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson — of course — wrote, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable Rights; that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of happiness.” (Yes, the final version says “unalienable.” Jefferson wrote “inalienable.” Isn’t it comforting to know even Thomas Jefferson had an editor?)

    The Creator didn’t just bestow those rights and head off to play in Barstow. America’s leaders knew His work was personal. In his 2nd Inaugural Address in 1805, Jefferson called on God’s help to guide his service to the nation.

    I shall need, too, the favor of that Being in whose hands we are, who led our fathers, as Israel of old, from their native land and planted them in a country flowing with all the necessaries and comforts of life; who has covered our infancy with His providence and our riper years with His wisdom and power, and to whose goodness I ask you to join in supplications with me that He will so enlighten the minds of your servants, guide their councils, and prosper their measures that whatsoever they do shall result in your good, and shall secure to you the peace, friendship, and approbation of all nations.

    But there’s a flip side. Years earlier, in his international best-seller Notes on the State of Virginia, Jefferson had warned that God’s eyes were upon us. It’s a warning even more timely today than it was when he wrote it.

    God who gave us life gave us liberty. Can the liberties of a nation be secure when we have removed a conviction that these liberties are the gift of God? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just, that His justice cannot sleep forever…..

    he role of God in our nation and it’s founders and their documents and new nation are clear. All of our inalienable human rights are God given. He is our creator who created us as equals among each other in His sight. Washington, Adams, Jefferson all saw the role of God in the creation of this nation.

    We as believers have a lot to stand for on this upcoming Independence Day.

    they wanted to protect religion, speech, RTBA, Due process.
    they failed out of the gate
    In order to do that a 4th branch of government needed to be created and it never was.
    The only time the people have a true say in this guv is when they are at the brink of war and pick up arms, oh wait thats right you get to elect your new dictators.

    When you're born you get a ticket to the freak show. When you're born in America, you get a front row seat.

    I now make it my earnest prayer, that God would have you, and the State over which you preside, in his holy protection; that he would incline the hearts of the citizens to cultivate a spirit of subordination and obedience to government; to entertain a brotherly affection and love for one another, for their fellow citizens of the United States at large, and particularly for their brethren who have served in the field; and finally, that he would most graciously be pleased to dispose us all to do justice, to love mercy, and to demean ourselves with that charity, humility, and pacific temper of mind which were the characteristics of the Divine Author of our blessed religion, and without an humble imitation of whose example in these things we can never hope to be a happy nation.

    Like what ? What is it that "Believers" stand for - that has relevance to "Give me liberty or death" ?

    "The role of God in our Nation" What Role would that be . and which God has taken up this role ?

    and - why is it that so many folks have such little understanding of the founding principles ?

    That we know God is our creator and that in his sight we are equals among each other. That God Is the source of all our inalienable human rights. That our nation was founded due to His divine Providence. That we are one nation, under God, indivisible. In God we Trust.

    1) You don't know anything about God "God is our Creator" -- Give me a break .. assumed premise fallacy on steroids.
    2) While I may agree that in the sight of God .. we are all equals .. equally ambivalent to the sight of God -- we don't know that for sure either..
    3) What God ? which God are you talking about .. you sit here claiming to know the mind of some God .. claim that this God Created humans - yet don't seem to know who this God is .. or what this God is.

    4) Founded due to divine providence ? Care to explain that one ? Which God exercised divine providence to which the founders adhered.. and how was this done ... what is it that the founders adhere to .
