I can afford the more expensive tomato. Others can't. Slave wages? If it were a slave wage they wouldn't accept the job. No one is forcing them. This is just another instance of the free market WORKING!
Forgetting that whole demand part of the supply and demand equation. Look, I can post the journal articles if you'd like, but no, illegal immigration doesn't lower wages. It can lower wages for unskilled workers without a high school diploma, but even then, it only does that in the short run. And higher GDP = more jobs overall. And competition is good for overall economic growth, regardless of what it does to the wages of a smaller group.
. . . You are lecturing people on economics and you are making the same fallacy that Adam Smith corrected a long time ago. Are you aware of the concept of opportunity costs? If I can make any more profitable use of the money invested in growing the food, the space I allocate for it or the time that I spend doing it, then no, it isn't cheaper for me to grow the food myself.
I will agree that you are not being deceptive in this particular post; merely incorrect. You state there MUST be a plan, I've already explained why it's not necessary. Current law already provides for that. Arguing that Bush 43 and McCain "knew" there has to be some sort of plan is the worst appeal to authority ever. I think both of those gentlemen have been totally wrong on immigration. I couldn't disagree with them more on that subject.
It's not a free market when you flood the place with people that don't play by the rules and others enable them.
Ahh no they aren't, you don't realize that? Why would a man enter a country illegally to accept a job in which the wage was unacceptable? The notion is ridiculous on its face.
You obviously don't really understand the implications of a true free market. It's alright though, many of the members of the cult of trump don't either. It's sad really. Free market used to be one of the tenants of conservatism.
It isn't a free market if you use artificial constraints to discourage competition. It isn't a free market when the "rules" you champion are artificial constraints on the free market.
Wasn't that story about the peak of the fracking boom? I think things have changed. ND had a very low unemployment rate and/but the cost of living was off the chain. It proves nothing more than capitalism works and wages will rise when demand for labor exceeds supply. Artificial wage floors are useless.
The increase in illegal alien apprehensions will take care of that, and the wall will stop people from becoming illegal aliens by other insidious means...
And, I am pointing out that there is no plan. Making something illegal and prescribing a penalty is NOT a plan, regardless of the issue.
A "plan" would start with enforcing current laws, something that hadn't been happening. Adding more ICE is "a plan". Forcing municipalities to comply and interact with ICE is a plan. Punishing those who refuse to comply with the latter is "a plan".
Yes, that would surely be part of a plan for removing 11m people. But, it certainly is not sufficient as a plan.
Is this where living in a rental back of truck during the oil boom was $1000/mo? $17.40/hr doesn't go far when everything else is sky high. So you want hyperinflation.
Not sufficient or not politically correct? Seems the latter. Let the chips fall where they make. Either leave, apply for and take the legal path to being a citizen, or be deported. It's just that simple.
Not sufficient. Politically correct has nothing to do with it. Contrary to the popular fantasy, we are enforcing our current immigration laws. Trying to force state and local governments to become federal law enforcement isn't going to work. And most of these people don't have a legal path to temporary or permanent legal residency, much less citizenship. This whole idea that there is some sort of line they can just go enter and be considered for legal entry is an additional fantasy.
Nobody is forcing local LEO to do ICE's job. However, obstruction is a different matter and it's what they are doing. Perhaps we do need more ICE headquarters and manpower in the obvious hotbeds of sanctuary states. I agree, ramp up and man them sufficiently until under control. You sort of damned those illegals with the bolded portion. They managed to get here, now the feds need to usher them out. If they have no prayer of ever becoming a citizen, then they need to ****. Now.
I didn't damn those illegals. It isn't their fault our current immigration system is a back asswards **** storm that is failing to keep pace with our economic requirements. I want them to come here legally, but I also want our laws to get some sanity injected into them so that someone who wants to come here and work, who has no criminal record, and has someone who wants to hire him, can do so.
