The Judgment Of Paris: The Blind Taste Test That Decanted The Wine World More: https://www.npr.org/sections/thesal...-that-decanted-the-wine-world?t=1633768565337 Did you know? I always like this story!
We had something similar here about 20 years ago when English sparkling wines started beating Champagnes in blind tests. As climate change raises temperatures above optimum in the Champagne region English wines may start to take over.
There is no doubt that French wine is fine - but there is also no doubt that it has often been over-rated. German wine snobs often boast that they only drink French wine and never German wine. Thinking that so they prove that they are "connaisseurs". The only thing they prove that way is that they are silly snobs with no real feeling for wine.
We had a cheap hock here called Blue Nun which did German wine a disservice. Everyone drank it back in the late 70s then it became the butt of jokes because of its lack of sophistication, often called Liebfraumuck. After that the wine snobs ignored it for years. I think its reputation has recovered again now. I don't buy wine very often but I'll look for a good Liebfraumilch next time I do.
There is a lot of really good German wine. And lots of varieties of German wines. When I was in England, I was a bit sad that to see none of them all was known and that "Blue Nun" counted as a typical German wine.
