If I had that number of players to choose from, but chose to buy my players in from abroad and still failed...I'd be disappointed too. (it's too late, you sided with el Ray and now you're for it)
(...are you on about football or golf, I need to know where to aim my missiles)

They won it in 2004(Euro Cup), didn't they? I was yelling at the TV for them against Russia & they didn't disappoint!

Yes, they're lovely people and in tough times. It would be nice to see them win and maybe lift their country's morale.

Ok, enough soccer talk, back to sports.

The Phillies played at the Toronto Blue Jays and the Phils gave up the walkoff score in the 11th inning. Our best reliever, Papelbonwas sitting on the bench. This guy is way too well paid to not be used in this moment, but the manager keeps insisting that he can't be utilized in tie games on the road. Madness.

Typical US con mentality. Sport exists outside US and the thread doesn't specify US only sports, which no one else in the world plays or cares about.

I didn't realize I was taking sides. I pick & choose who I cheer for & when. I generally root for underdogs, but I'm wary of wasting emotional capital on teams that have pretty much no chance(I have Irish roots, but boy do they suck!) In this tourney, I'm rooting for Germany. Why? I dunno, I just think they're gonna win. I usually always root for Portugal, but they always seem to disappoint. I always root against Brazil (can't stand 'em) & England - at my church we have a youth pastor that is English & I like dogging him!

I hate to tell you, but I think he hates "cons", like me. "Vile" is not a good term.

The Irish don't normally play so badly, their team is usually pretty good. How can you not like Brazil? They are all entertainment and skill.

I know I should like golf and my house backs onto a golf course...

What could be more vile than to label him a con :p

A battle of attrition in the final round of the U.S.Open. Only 2 players below par, Graeme McDowell & Jim Furyk (each at -1). If Tiger (+4, 5 shots behind) is to win, he'll have to do something he's never done; Come from behind on the last day to win a major

He did not even "twig" my earlier sarcasm .
But let them be . They have so little to boast about these days that is nice to hear them chirping merrily about their Rounders , as we called it when we invented their game .
They love their baseball and it is quite tiring enough for them . Imagine trying to teach them Cricket !!

Mariners suck. Seahawks just let someone that stood trial for rape participate in minicamp. Canucks bombed early and the Kings won the Cup. The former Seattle Supersonics are playing the Heat. Meh.

Who is attacking us? Nobody. We are just out and about directing your activities to help you out.

That is what Raymo will say, but don't rise to his bait.

I am not watching on a protest after England stole that last game, but by osmosis I know Portugal won so well done to them. And what happened to the Dutch, a formerly great footballing nation who have done nothing for absolutely ages...

I don't have any gripe with most of the yanks, I'm just playing with them. They are too nice to hit me back because I'm a girl.

    .

More like they are stuck in their armchairs because they are too fat to get up .
I think that is why they use guns all the time .
Too fat to chase their assailants .

No wonder you never win a war .No strategy .
We have four submarines that patrol the international waters , each capable of devastating a country .No need for American over kill .
But , be serious , ( as John said) , even Hitler came to England because of our culture .
Did you know he visited , Knuckle Head?
Who would want to invade the cultural centre of the world ?
Plus any Deluded Wannabee would soon see that we would adopt guerilla tactics and remove you one by one just as The Taliban treated you and we treated the nasty little Scotty people and the Romans , a long time ago .

Ah, the key phrase "...a long time ago"
Now, a whole lotta you Europeans sit on your behinds letting your going broke governments try to take care of you.
I'm over 50 y.o., work 45+ hours a week(blue collar work & proud of it!), have run 7 marathons, including one last year.
I would tell you to get a job, but being a socialist, you don't want one & you can't find one anyway.
Now, why don't you try sticking to sports, if you can twitch the couple of brain cells you got & come up with an original thought. If not, go back to haunting the political section of the forum.

Yes. US will buy..oops I mean... WIN it. The end

We're going to some of the football games. I can't say I even know most of the athletes this time though. Who is the most famous...Usain Bolt? Hopefully he will win something in the sprint.

Do you have any top tips?

Bolt, I'm guessing, is the most well known track athlete. But guys like LeBron James can't go anywhere without getting recognized.

Not many tips right now, Im familiar with many of the US athletes that will be competing, but I'm not really aware of many of the athletes from around the globe.

It's always a fun time of year though, seeing some of the best athletes in their respective sports duking it out....

And the US isn't buying anything. We're still on the receiving end of the worst robbery in the history of the Olympic games.

I am also very much looking forward to the Olympics. I always take two weeks for vacation(Summer) & because I really don't have anything planned, I decided to take my vaca during the Olympics. I look forward to all the events, stuff I really don't pay any attention to in between the O's, but just captivate in the O's; like swimming, track & field, water polo & diving(& not just in the soccer comp!). I generally root for Americans, but can honestly say I really don't root against anybody & cheer for great performances by anybody from any country. OK, maybe I root against the Brazilian soccer team! I look forward to it all!
PS: I almost forgot about volleyball & BEACH VOLLEYBALL!!!(now that would be a shame to forget BEACH VOLLEYBALL!!!)

    Olympic schedule

Wow, already a sore looser before the games begin. That's gotta be some kind of record.
