enforcement does duh now tell me why someone who is willing to commit armed robbery or murder will be stopped by a gun control law
wow, what a swing and a miss and complete evasion tell us who banning a 20 round magazine or registration requirement will stop a mass murderer
The laws against murder exist to punish people who commit it, not prevent it.. Gun control laws exist to prevent certain people from getting guns. Apples and limestone.
FYI “Through the association's magazine, The American Rifleman, members were kept abreast of new firearms bills, although the lag time in publishing often prevented the necessary information from going out quickly. In response to repeated attacks on the Second Amendment rights, NRA formed the Legislative Affairs Division in 1934. While NRA did not lobby directly at this time, it did mail out legislative facts and analyses to members, whereby they could take action on their own. In 1975, recognizing the critical need for political defense of the Second Amendment, NRA formed the Institute for Legislative Action, or ILA. Meanwhile, the NRA continued its commitment to training, education and marksmanship. During World War II, the association offered its ranges to the government, developed training materials, encouraged members to serve as plant and home guard members, and developed training materials for industrial security. NRA members even reloaded ammunition for those guarding war plants. Incidentally, the NRA's call to help arm Britain in 1940 resulted in the collection of more than 7,000 firearms for Britain's defense against potential invasion by Germany (Britain had virtually disarmed itself with a series of gun-control laws enacted between World War I and World War II). tell us how a ban on normal capacity magazines-which you clearly support-is going to impede a mass murderer?
My long gone paternal grandfather was an artillery captain in the AEA-France 1917-18-earned the DSC, Purple heart, Croix de Guerre and a few other awards. He returned from France with a Mauser 98 taken off a German soldier who was killed attacking the US artillery position. He sent that to England to help them resist another wave of German infantry
As stated: If only things remained in such a way. Sadly, they demonstrably have fallen far indeed and there are frankly better organizations carrying it forward now.
So, you agree: -If not for the NRA and that focus, the right to keep and bear arms would be a relic of history, shi'ite-canned by Democrats, et al. -That said, I should not at ALL care that the NRA added its focus on gun rights and is responsible for preventing the above. Cool.
I agree that some people once running the giant mecha that is a non profit like the NRA once did a good thing. I do not agree that that practice carried on into the future, mostly because the board now seems chiefly concerned with financing their cocaine and hookers purchases.
My 2cents is the NRA has contributed to limiting anti 2nd amendment gun laws. But, as a counter point there have been many, misguided though they have been or may be, that have been passed and left to expire because they really didn't contribute to curbing "gun" violence. So, my point is, the NRA's lobbying has been only marginally affective while, they have all but abdicated their mission to educate young gun owners and make responsible gun owners of them. At the same time left a void for gun advocates that want serious efforts to protect the 2nd Amendment AND work as a society to curb gun violence. But, IMHO (O for OPINION), the NRA IS at the root of the divisiveness that is destroying American society, by destroying the concept that no matter what else we ALL are AmeriCAN's and that is OUR POWER. By being the root divider they have weekend OUR Beloved United States, far more than any gun law ever could. And then they've topped it all of by demonstrating what a corrupt organization they have become, as documented elsewhere in this thread. NO, I lack any form of respect for the NRA, an organization that I was once proud to be a member of.
translation-those who don't like GOP winning elections, hate the NRA. Now I have been a life member of the NRA for almost 50 years since at one time it was the NGB for Olympic shooting sports and as a teenager I had a dream of shooting skeet for the USA in the Olympics. Never realized but I came close and I know that Wayne LaPierre is pig and I never had much use for him and yes, I was part of a legal team that went after both the USOC and the NRA when they screwed a fellow skeet shooter out of the 88 Olympics (don't ask, I am not at liberty to discuss the settlement). However, the NRA is still the foremost gun SAFETY (a term the anti gun pimps have co-opted and lied about for several years) organization. When Ohio required a 12 hour then 8 hour course to CCW, the students had to pass the NRA safety course and the instructors either had to be OPOTA or NRA certified. That is still true in most states that require a course to CCW.
and the Democrat party was not founded to strip constitutional rights from American citizens-rather it was to keep blacks from having such rights.
What has that got to do with the current status of the NRA basically being an unofficial advertising arm of the gun industry. No sorry not that it is a propaganda arm of the gun industry.
I never even considered a NRA/GOP connection when I made that post. The NRA has lost its way and has been a major contributor to OUR nations self destructive divisiveness. That’s why I’m no longer a member and, why I have NO respect for them.
I reject your biased and unsupported comment about an organization that your objectivity about is clearly zero.
preventing the democrats from turning millions of Americans into felons is hardly a bad thing. you seem to think there are grounds for compromise between those of us who won't give up our guns and those who want to criminalize gun ownership
The NRA began as an advocate for blacks bearing arms in the south to protect themselves from post civil war KKK. Since then, they expanded their outreach to all Americans. JFK was a life-long member. Used to be that all civil rights supporters were friends of the NRA. Once LBJ figured out how to crush the civil rights movement with crack and welfare, the NRA became 'the baddies.'
If a law prohibiting murder doesn't deter them, a law prohibiting carrying a gun isn't going to scare them. Do you expect them to not murder someone because carrying a gun is illegal?
No, I don’t. I think “educating” our fellow Americans about gun violence and helping them understand that it’s not guns but societies brokenness that is the cause of gun violence is more effective than making and treating them like enemies. Enemies have their agenda not yours. Friends work with you to SOLVE problems. We have a violence problem that needs to be solved. We need to make our COUNTRYMEN understand it’s NOT a gun problem.
