The Treaty of Versailles crippled Germany economically and militarily. It allowed a hate monger on the level of Adolph Hitler to possess enough political power to ascend. The brown shirts did the rest instilling fear and essentially bullied their way to complete control. Fear and intimidation were their modus operandi.

    "“Die Juden sind schuld!"

Essentially, the Jews are to blame for everything...

The Third Reich believed they deserved to be exterminated off of the face of the Earth..this was his goal. After the Jews...go after the Poles, then the Russians...they might spare a few of the Slavics to be subservient to the master race..the Aryan ideal. Blonde hair, blue eyes, handsome, beautiful...virile!

    A load of hooey.

While to a degree, a level of empathy for the German people is understood..the Treaty of Versailles, screwed them over. Hitler and his Reich promised jobs, prosperity and a future...too bad he was certifiably insane. Germany needed a leader to instill national pride once again, but he was extreme, he led them to complete annihilation.

Hate based and hate centric ideologies...like the Nazis, like the Islamic extremists...will only lead you to self-destruction.

When will people learn? Do you blame the Jews until the end of time? Perhaps they are the chosen people if that is the case..I've never experienced such irrational hatred towards a people as those who truly wish harm on the Jew. I will fight along side them if that is the case..and die with them; for this World holds no place for me if every waking moment is spent on desiring the extinction of a people..for no earthly good reason other than a useful scapegoat for the pitfalls of life.

Yes, it makes a huge difference.

Apathy (the general European attitude after WWII) is far different from actively seeking out, collecting up, then slaughtering of people wholesale. That is what Germany did. If you can not see the difference, then there is really ntohing to discuss here.

If some bully decides to beat somebody up, I am going to do all I can to help out the person he is abusing.

If the bully then gets his butt kicked by somebody else, do not expect me to give a damn, he is getting what he deserves. Maybe next time he will stop trying to bully others simply because he thinks he can get away with it.

Your claim that 2 million German women (including children as young as 8 years old) deserved to be raped is noted.

Actually, that is mostly propaganda to be honest.

The real thing that crippled Germany were the unending and ceaseless revolutions that consumed the country, starting before the war was even over and continuing for another decade. And by the time the revolutions finally settled down the Global Depression came along and crippled not only Germany but most of the Industrialized World.

The problem with the "Treaty crippled Germany" cry is that it completely ignores what the rest of the world was going through at the same time. The new Soviet Union was equally crippled, and started to pull itself together at about the same time Germany did. However it had a more centralized economy that was less dependent on imports-exports so it was able to recover at a slower but more steady pace.

The US economy took off like gangbusters, but then collapsed a decade later.

The Ottoman Empire was disbanded, dissolved, and much of it's territory taken away. Yet their economy did not completely collapse (although they did have over a decade of hard times as the new government rebuilt itself.

Italy remained neutral in the war, yet it also underwent revolution and economic collapse.

What I always hate about the "Blame Versailles" cry is that it completely ignores a great many key facts (and the fact that the Nazi Fanbois love to use it as justification). It ignores the fact that by the time WWI ended, Germany was already consumed by revolution.

It also completely ignores the "Goldene Zwanziger", or "Golden 20's" (equivelent to the "Roaring 20's" in the US), where the economy actually stabilized for several years, and the arts and economy flourished in Germany. The economy was not as strong as it was before the war, but it was certainly strong enough to make Germany the premiere cinema nation in the world at that time, with films that are landmarks and generally far superior to those from even the US.

Nosferatu, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, Metropolis, Der Golem: wie er in die Welt kam, The Doll, Pandora's Box, M, many of the most influential films of the silent era came from Germany during the Weimar Republic.

Sorry, I am done with this. Your continued attempts to twist what I say and dishonesty means you have nothing else to say that I have any interest in reading.

You posted the following in a thread that deals with the raping and killing of millions of German civilians, including women and children:

I didn't have to "twist" anything. Your argument is as clear as day. Just because you are reluctant to morally defend your position doesn't mean I am being dishonest.

Yes. There is an entire mythology surrounding the Versailles Treaty and its alleged 'unfairness', usually based on German propaganda and distortions, and then followed by the FDR bashing narratives that seems to be all the rage on pseudo-conservative tabloid sites these days. A topic worthy of its own thread.

The Nazis conducted a much different war in the East and southern regions than they conducted against the western countries; the western front being rather 'old school' versus their eastern and southern offensives being mercilessly brutal against civilians. And, because the Nazis learned nothing from Crete and Greece, they ended up with former 'allies' in the East hating them worse than the Russians did, and some 100,000 partisans behind them in their drives through the Soviet Union. So, yes, few have any tears to waste on the outcome re the Russians. Personally, I have no tears to shed over Poland or the Ukraine, either; they provided a surplus of enthusiastic participants in rounding up Jews, and delighted in killing Jewish survivors returning from the camps after the war as well. Many nations also hope to bury their own participation under the Nazi rubbish pile as well. Antisemitism has always been a Team Europe sport, and no country ever wants to be left out of it; it's something they can all set aside their differences over , and that is true today as well.

Well, I found a good article which lays bare the American drive for war against Germany.

!. Morgenthau was eager to see Leon Blum retain the premiership in the hope that he would plunge France into conflict with Hitler.

    2. The United States took exception to a German law of March 30, 1938, which removed the Jewish church from its position as one of the established churches of Germany. This meant that German public tax receipts would go no longer to the Jewish church, although German citizens would continue to pay taxes for the Protestant and Catholic churches. The situation established by this new law in Germany was in conformity with current English practice, where public tax revenue went to the Anglican Church, but the Jewish churches received nothing.

    3. On March 14, 1938, Under-Secretary of State Sumner Welles complained to Polish Ambassador Jerzy Potocki about the German treatment of the Jews and praised Poland for her "policy of tolerance." Potocki, who knew that current Polish measures against the Jews were more severe than those in Germany, replied with dignity that "the Jewish problem in Poland was a very real problem." It is evident that the Jewish question was primarily a pretext of American policy to disguise the fact that American leaders were spoiling for a dispute with Germany on any terms.

    4. Jules Henry, the French Charge d'Affaires, reported to Paris on November 7, 1937, that President Roosevelt was interested in overthrowing Hitler, but that the majority of the American people did not share his views.

    5. French Ambassador Saint-Quentin reported on June 11, 1938, that President Roosevelt suddenly blurted out during an interview that "the Germans understand only force," and then clenched his fist like a boxer spoiling for a fight.

    6. The Polish Ambassador was informed by William C. Bullitt, the American Ambassador to France who was visiting in the United States, that President Roosevelt was determined to bring America into the next European war. Bullitt explained to Potocki at great length that he enjoyed the special confidence of President Roosevelt. Bullitt predicted that a long war would soon break out in Europe, and "of Germany and her Chancellor, Adolf Hitler, he spoke with extreme vehemence and with bitter hatred." He suggested that the war might last six years, and he advocated that it should be fought to a point where Germany could never recover.

    7. Bullit assured Potocki that the United States would participate in this war, if Great Britain and France made the first move. Bullitt inquired about Polish policy, and Potocki replied that Poland would fight rather than permit Germany to tamper with her western frontier. Bullitt, who was strongly proPolish, declared it was his conviction that it would be possible to rely on Poland to stand firmly against Germany.

    8. President Roosevelt had been one of the few advocating permanent peacetime military conscription in the United States during the complacent 1920's. Such factors were more than sufficient to prompt Roosevelt to adopt an aggressive attitude toward Germany. He had no strong pro-Jewish feelings; he jokingly said at the 1945 Yalta Conference that he would like to give the Arabian leader, Ibn Saud, five million American Jews. The Jewish issue was mainly a convenient pretext to justify official American hostility toward Germany.

    9. Potocki overestimated the Jewish question because of his own intense prejudices against the Jews, which were shared by the entire Polish leadership. He was highly critical of the American Jews. He believed that Jewish influence on American culture and public opinion, which he regarded as unquestionably preponderant, was producing a rapid decline of intellectual standards in the United States. He reported to Warsaw again and again that American public opinion was merely the product of Jewish machinations.

I hope you really will read and inform yourselves, because you are blinded by constant brainwashing about the real history of the Second World War. Blaming, despising and insulting the German Nation is wrong. Look at your own leadership and be ashamed for what your country has done in the past and is doing now.

Did England remove citizenship from their Jews, take all their property, remove their rights as people, then place them first into concentration camps, then death camps?

If not, then you have no basis of comparison there. Now if you can find a comparison to the Nuremberg Laws in pre-war England then you have a valid point that can be discussed. Otherwise, you have nothing to stand on.

    Good day.

Nope, doesn't relate to "us" at all, unless you count the Soviets as "us".

The Soviet atrocities against Germans happened in relation to Germany's failed invasion of Russia, so there's no reason for "us" (the West) to feel any particular sympathy for them - anymore than there is for "us" to feel sympathy for the Soviet's losses after their failed invasions. Such crap.

And he started to sink our shipping as soon as he did so. Long before the US dropped a single bomb anywhere in Europe.

True, it's apparent who the real traitors are - taking the side of the military of an anti-capitalist government which attacked America unprovoked, yet claiming to represent "Western civilization.

By their own logic taking the side of ISIS would make them "patriots", since ISIS is clearly against "progressive, socialist" values as well

The Soviets were just as much a part of the "Allies" team as the US. They had killed upwards of 20 million people before Hitler even came to power, and we decided to make them our Allies. Their actions after the war should rightly be a huge blemish on the legacy of the Allies.

But you're free to pretend the Allies did only good and the Germans were pure evil, if it fits your preconceived notions. That's your right.

I doubt Hitler's Europe would have taken in millions of Muslim immigrants and hooked them up to a welfare system. The very thing that will bring an end to European, and by extension, Western civilization, in the coming decades.

The "ideal solution" was to give Jews their own homeland. Hitler sent scouts to Madagascar and made plans to relocate Jews there. Later he looked into areas in what is now North Western Russia. Strange thing for someone to do if they were hellbent on wiping them all out from the start.

Hitler was economically to the left of modern European labor parties, that's why he called it the national socialist party. Just because he wasn't socially liberal doesn't change that.

Plus, Hitler declared war on us, and attacked American ships prior to us ever sitting foot in Europe.

However you word it, taking up for Germany and accosting the allies for the loss of German life isn't a far cry from standing up for ISIS or Al-Qada claim that as "religious social conservatives" they're standing against "liberal progressive values" or whatnot. All you're doing is siding against America with a socialist nation which declared war on America (while trying to rationalize it and claim you're really on the side of America... um... yeah).

Hitler invaded Russia and brought it on himself, the allies only sided with Russia after the fact - we weren't under any "obligation" to keep the Russians out of Berlin.

Your theory that siding with Russia lead to Marxist-thought becoming influential on a wide scale also lacks substantiation; many of your sources have been sketchy so I of course have my doubts about this claim as well.

German soldiers, no. The German regime however is to blame - and the allies certainly aren't to blame for Russia - Hitler should have thought of that before invading them despite them having previously made a pact.

National Socialists believed in private property, though it is true National socialism contained a lot of left-wing economic principles. However, my point was related to the taking in of millions upon millions of 3rd world immigrants who do not speak the common language, share the common culture, or have the nation's best interest in mind, and giving them welfare benefits. This destructive arrangement is possible under a socialist leadership, since socialists are internationalist in nature. This wouldn't have happened under a nationalist leadership like Germany's.

We've seen small examples of this in recent years. When Greece's economy fell apart, right-wing groups like the Golden Dawn started accepting charity from around the world, pledging to give only aid to true Greek citizens, instead of giving aid to non-Greek immigrants. This was a noble effort and I hope that all Western European countries adopt similar programs in the future. You may be having a negative reaction right now after reading that, but ask yourself, if a charity in Greece took charity donations and gave it to immigrant groups only, would you be upset about it? I doubt it. So why is the opposite arrangement so offensive to you?

We were Britain and France's allies, and they had declared war on Germany.

I used to think like this, too.

So Europe's rapid left-wing transformation after WWII was just a coincidence? National Socialism was the only ideology to actually name Marxism as the enemy and fight against it. We took them out, giving Marxism free reign in the West.

German soldiers? You have people in this thread justifying the rape and murder of German civilians, including girls as young as 8, because they didn't protest Hitler's leadership enough, or at all. They deserved it, according to some.

and yet by 1941, he had decided to exterminate the Jews.

800,000 shipped to Treblinka alone. Barely 3,000 remained alive in 1945.

    War sucks. Typhus didn't help.

    Not in Germany.

But isn't that weird, that the guy who was apparently bent on eliminating all Jews was looking into giving them a homeland of their own, prior to the establishment of Israel?

Problem is, the Nazis did not start the movement of racial eugenics. That honor would rest right here in the US. As a matter of fact, Hitler learned of eugenics by reading American eugenics studies and used them to justify his program in Germany.... Funny how these kind of facts get obscured in history.... Well those who win the war write the history.. true or not.

The winners writing the history books is why you never hear much about Soviet atrocities compared to Germany's, despite a much higher death count.
