"Government is too big"? That's part of the ideological splurge. Heard that since Thatcherism; itself a fake libertarian exercise in increasing coercion and profiteering at the expense of the worker

Rev, at the expense of the worker is one thing, at the expense of the worker paying for the non worker is entirely different. There are so many people that could work but don't have to because the government pays them not to.

In terms of welfare, efficiency and effectiveness criteria are oftten in conflict. Focus too much on the former and the latter can suffer. We also saw that with Thatcherism. The 'government is too big' mantra enabled child poverty to go through the roof. The negative externalities weren't pretty!

And focus too much on the latter, and there are no jobs because the business no longer exists.

Who's focusing too much on the latter? The US certainly isn'r. See, for example, her high poverty rate post-welfare policy

So what? Freedom in a political context means "free from coercion by State authorities" not "freedom from bad employers".

Not a cunning comment, given we're referring to an example of deliberate coercion engineered through the nature of state interventionism
