Initially, I wasn't going to do a thread specifically on this topic, but discussions frequently refer to gun registration being a Slippery Slope, or references to the Left's strategy of the continual slow erosion of gun rights, so I thought I would go ahead and initiate a thread based on the following article originally published in the 1999 Hamline Law Review. I think it a good summary of the history of gun control legislation in the UK and there are good crossover, parelell, points to the Left's road map long term strategy for the US. http://www.guncite.com/journals/okslip.html An observation I find of interest is This article frames the discussion of the 'Slippery Slope' not just in term of the loss of gun rights, but what I and others have suggested is prelude to the erosion of other civil liberties. The article's section XI identifies several factors that periodically enter our discussion of what many of us see as a long term plan of the Left that extends beyond gun rights. Note the frequent use of the word 'reasonable', it's interpretation 'in the eye of the beholder' and how similar words and phrases are used to inch along the erosion or rights. After reading, is there a question that there isn't a long term strategy unfolding in the US? There are elements in the article that shed some light on the influences on the inclusion of the US bill of rights in our Constitutuion and it might be easy to suggest, the article lays out a strategy for US disamament along the tried and proven path of the U.K., rather than that of AU. It also provides justification for why any and all attempts of the erosion of gun rights should be opposed as well as why some of us participate in these discussions... too oppose legitimizing anti-rights reasoning for what it is. Our civil liberties have come at great sacrifice and to preserve them requires continual vigilance and lest we are ready to surrender the civil liberties most of us value. Is the Slippery Slope described already unfolding here?
Is the Slippery Slope described already unfolding here? Unfolding? We're half-way down the hill 1968 Felons cannot buy guns 1993 How do we prevent felons from buying guns? Background checks 2017 How do we close the (non-existent) "gun show loophole"? Universal background checks 2024 How do we enforce universal background checks? Universal registration No one wonders why they want universal registration.
One thing noteworthy, in U.K. as in most other Countries, you have Law breakers and Law Abiding people, and the numbers vary from Country to Country. Countries dominated by Progressive Liberals seek to disarm its Citizens as a blanket measure of Control, past History proves Gun control has never worked as a Crime prevention measure in any Country. Crime is not linked to firearms, History shows that Crime predates firearms, Cain did not shoot Abel his brother, he mashed him with a Rock, did they have Rock Control ? U.K. as many other Countries seek simplistic solutions to problems best solved by current means, More Guns = Less Crime. An Armed Society is a polite Society.
it's a style of thinking , remember this? Time is called on traditional pint glass after government brands them too dangerous http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencet...fice-demand-safer-design-reduce-assaults.html and then there was this: Doctors' kitchen knives ban call http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/4581871.stm
I find it interesting that the anti-gunners keep referring to gun laws in other countries. I thought the foundation of the US was creating a country that was NOT like other countries. We were a free people and the government feared the population. Ain't immigration and lack of assimilation great?
