But if you do attempt to stop the person and the person dies or gets injured you get charged?

    *******n right.

I would've run towards the gun fire.

Just because you so closely identify with the coward Peterson doesn't mean we all do.

His actions cost lives. Jail is too good for him, but jail would be appropriate.

Everyone is a hero in their own mind. Especially when hiding in the safe basement behind a computer screen.

It isn't about being a hero. It's about doing one's job.

His fault wasn't being a coward. It was becoming a police officer vowing to serve and protect while never really Intending to do so.

I don't believe that he never had the intent, he just couldn't do it when the situation arose. The truth is that nobody knows how they will react in such a situation. Anyone who pretends they know how they will react is a liar.

The fact is that even for trained soldiers in combat, only a minority actually fire at the enemy.

It's just not human nature to run open eyed toward what is likely to be your demise.

It wasn’t a bystander. He took an oath to serve and protect.

There are some jobs where failure to do the job properly is a crime. It angers me that these all too frequent school shootings are displaying the lack of brave LEOs we have in this country. I don’t mean that to sound mean, but it is a growing perception. What those cops in Uvalde did, IMO, was absolutely a crime.

Perhaps 60 year old, out of shape men, shouldn’t be given the assignment of protecting children.

He has probably rationalized his actions somehow. The reality is that many people freeze under pressure and lean towards cowardice. He can never call himself brave, that's for sure.

And what a shitty thing to say. "Finally I have my life back." How about the kids who were killed that you were supposed to protect and serve? Do they get their lives back?

That really bugged me too. I’m sure his brain has been really busy recreating the events in his head to assure himself that he did nothing wrong.

Human nature does allow this when protecting children or people you love. I have experienced myself reacting and putting myself in danger not even having a second thought about the consequences.

If he lacked the proper instincts to protect others, he should not have been a cop. I would argue that there is a failure in the hiring process and psychological evaluations if not with his ability to keep his vow.

Well it certainly was in this case. A black cop with a gun took down a mass shooter saving dozens of lives. This is the most remarkable cop footage I have ever seen.

Typo warriors are just that, typo people. It is one thing to sit in the comfort of your own surroundings, it is quite different to face the actual event. This holds true whether you are the typo warrior while playing Call of Duty or debating the topic. Nothing beats real experience in any given situation, which is why your comments on what a person should do will always fall on deaf ears with those who have actual experience.

Online pacifists are the worst. Everyone already knows they can't be depended on. They even admit it.
