Sure it will!! How can I get 521 members of congress on record stating they are for a balanced budget, yet we can not get a balanced budget? Because they don't want one! Here's the big, painful, truth. It is bread and circuses. Doesn't matter which party is in power, the glaring truth is that for them, power is all it is about, and if they fix a problem, they can no longer campaign on it. Sad but true. If it makes you feel good to root for your team, go man, root for em! But you need to reconcile yourself to the fact that there will be no noticeable change in the governance of this country. It's a game for them. Is it a game for you?
Problem goes back to the 1974 Budget and Impoundment Control Act. The Democrat Congress implemented Baseline Budgeting and stripped the power of the executive to withhold funds. An example of how this works is that when Reid and Obama failed to pass a budget after their $787B Stimulus, department budgets automatically increased each year after that by something like 6%. By the time the Sequester came about, the Stimulus cost almost $5T. Baseline budgeting is the culprit that prevents the problem from being fixed. Given that, the only way to drive deficits down is to drive the economy which means encouraging business investment which means reducing capital gains tax rates and regulation. Regardless of whose in the Oval Office, it should be clear by now that Washington is run by Democrats as a national plantation, just like their plantations of old.
Technically, given the state of the economy, a balanced budget would be irrational. It would, for example, guarantee hysteresis in unemployment. The more interesting aspect is how Americans have been convinced that the US Economy can be treated in the same way as Auntie Bertha's purse. By harvesting that sense of non-economic twaddle, they're more open for manipulation through pointless soundbite.
Oh not at all, if you don't vote you can't complain. My point is that we need to stop pretending that one party or the other is about fixing anything. They are more then happy to rule or ruin because they are not the folks who pay the price for it.
Term limits, and end lobbying. If advice is needed on a specific subject, a representative can give testimony in a public chamber to congress. No closed doors, no open access to representatives of the people. We seem to have lost grip on a vital phrase. Absolute power, corrupts absolutely. We've given DC 'absolute power'.
'Ballance the budget' in political context is just code for 'take away the oppositions toys and pay for more of mine instead.'
I am not advocating for anyone not to vote, please do. Just asking what have they showed you they do with your vote?
Depends there are a handful of Republicans in congress trying to change things, still too many neo cons left. The best thing about them us they're all older than fog and no one is immortal.
We continue to have a growing, more invasive, more corrupt, more confused and more incompetent government.
one should recall that neocons are conservatives only if one believes that the size of government doesn't matter as long as military spending us maintained. Much of our current Republican party leadership is compared of neocons. They care about two things the donor class and the military, note that's one more thing than the current leadership of the Democratic party cares about. Both will likely begone in a decade. As for confused and incompetent? All but unavoidable to a greater or lesser extent. Given four more or less independent levels of government, each with branches, often mutually antagonistic branches, of their own
