Mexico condemns fatal shooting over border by U.S. agent

    MEXICO CITY | Mon Jul 9, 2012 1:24am EDT

(Reuters) - The Mexican government on Sunday condemned the fatal shooting of a Mexican citizen over the U.S. border by a U.S. agent.

The victim was hit by a single bullet on Saturday, close to the Tomates-Veterans border crossing in Matamoros, over the river from Brownsville, Texas, Mexico's Foreign Relations Ministry said in a news release.

The shot was fired by a U.S. Border Patrol agent, the ministry said in the release.

"The Mexican government has reiterated that the disproportionate use of lethal force in immigration control is unacceptable under any circumstances," it said.

Officials for the Border Patrol were not immediately available for comment.

According to media in Brownsville, an agent reported that he had fired in response to rocks being thrown over the border.

Another good example of why better education would benefit America.

Indeed. He should have gathered the rocks thrown at them, and trow them back. His gun is just for show.

Friggin soldiers are not a peacekeepers. They are soldiers, carrying lethal weapons. You don't want to be shot at? Do not assault a soldier - a concept that Palestinian adults should teach their children.

You want people not to respond to a thrown rocks? Call UN in :)

Does this mean we can go to war with Mexico now?

I'd love to wipe the place off the map, as the government of Mexico can't keep a lid on its country's problems.

And this guy probably shot an illegal anyway. Not a bad solution.

Well, while Yankees with all their trillions in high tech weapons & radar were too busy eating donuts to even fly up and look at the aircraft on 9/11, the Mexicans stopped an attack on the Mexican government.

    Who is superior?

48,000 killed by drug cartels and now the PRI party in control?

Mexico is superior for sure. (In terms of internal and domestic slaughter, mass emigration, and lack of export of delicious tacos and salsa)

    lol touche'

But let's get real, no one cares about the ones who are dying (gangs) and thus it's irrelevant.

It will, however, make a great episode or two on *Gangland* (a favorite show of mine)

I wonder if legalising all those crap drugs would actually put an end to any of this nonsense. What do you think? It should at least drive down prices and give gangs both foreign and domestic a lot less to do where drugs are concerned.

The gang environment perpetuates itself outside of the drug business. A history of bad blood, competition over drugs that will remain illegal forever (crack, heroine), and consistent ethnic/cultural difference and 'turf' will continue the existence of gangs.

This, of course, is an observation of what I've learned watching Gangland.

The history channel has good shows then they don't air crap about aliens and ice road trucker culture.

Agreed, although legalizing drugs won't end organized crime. Ending the War on Drugs would just limit gang activities to things like gun trafficking and human trafficking.

So basically, we'd still have gang violence, but gangs would lose one of their biggest markets.

I fully support 100% Mexicans coming here LEGALLY if they can cook tomales, chiquistos, and burrito de verde authentically. Hell, I'd personally fund their entire cooking operation.

mexican beer + food = good times, especially in the summer. Or, as they say down in Mexico, 'durante el tiempo picante'.

Why would anyone think it's safe or smart to throw rocks at someone with a gun?

im not left or right, im very much in the middle. but it does seem to be a left thing to feel that defending yourself is offensive and punishable. and it does seem to be a right thing to feel that killing someone for offending you is commendable. however, this wasnt a left or right thing, this was a stupid thing. throwing rocks at an armed officer in a hostile and dangerous environment was very stupid.

A rock to the head will kill you as dead as a bullet. As an LEO, throw a rock at me.. and you will be shot.

How many rocks to head does it take to be justified in defending yourself?
