that is what you were talking about, is it not?

you were talking about going back in time to punish a woman for the crime of having an abortion

I was giving you other examples of how time travel could be abused in similar ways.... very on topic as it points out the flaws of your hypothetical

Well, that's a little bit of a tricky point.
It would not really be "retroactive" because the woman would know about this policy before it were enacted.
She would have a chance to decide not to do something that would result in her being aborted.

Only the punishment piece would be "retroactive". Not the crime and culpability to which that punishment is attached.

The important piece is that she would be informed of the law before the offense she committed.

sounds like religious nuts taking power to me.... let the woman decide for herself

let us hope religious nuts never get a hold of a time machine

some preachers would be molesting children, then going back in time, so it never happened

You're not very good at staying on topic or writing things that are relevant to the immediate subject being discussed, are you?

Seems like you keep throwing out multiple arguments that don't really have anything to do with what we're talking about.

But it still seems like you are unable present a coherent argument for why this would be wrong.

Sorry, FreshAir, I don't understand. Would you care to try to explain your point again?

Like, how does showing "how time could be abused in similar ways" point out a flaw in my hypothetical?

I tried, and you said I was off-topic, so obvious you don't want to listen to any views other than a limited response you think you have trapped people into - not the way it works... sorry

Well, for the life of me, I just can't see how your replies actually represent an argument against my point. Or I should say specifically against my point.

Seems like the arguments in your replies are just generically pro-abortion, rather than really being about the specific argument I was making.

The Pro-Choice argument has never been to force women to have abortions (it is anti-abiortionists who want to force them to give birth) -- Choice implies the absence of force. Your scenario is based on the government forcing women to abort, so it is actually very wrong by "Pro-Choice logic".

The thing here is that your dream can come true even without a time-machine; just suggest the death penalty as punishment for abortion. That would be more honest too since it is clearly what you want.
