Although it has become customary for we on the Right to charge that those who pour across our southern border somehow aspire to become Democrat Party members, and thus to go on welfare-for-life, the real reasons are surely far less political.

Truth? Considering the experiences most immigrants (legal or illegal) have had with political systems in the countries they've come from, they probably couldn't care less about being marble-caked into Machiavellian political schemes such as those they've seen in their own histories for over one hundred years!

Today's 'immigrants' are far too pragmatic to spend much time pondering political schemes at 'the forty thousand-foot level'... they simply want to fill their bellies somewhere out of the weather.... But, when immigration 'advocacy' groups tell them to mass together in 'caravans' and leverage "Asilo" (asylum), they do so as a 'means-to-an-end'....

But, at our own 'forty thousand-foot level', we taxpaying American citizens have many stunning challenges of our own already, especially today... and we on the Right simply don't view 'saving' the unhappy masses of Central America and Mexico as being among them.

 

And the Democrats will be ecstatic to welcome all these new future Democratic voters with open arms.

 

There have been a number of different stories concerning masses of 'citizens-of-foreign-countries' preparing to organize in various countries in Central America and regions in Mexico for travel to the U. S. border since about the beginning of October. This was thought by many radical Democrats to merely be a pre-election scare tactic to 'spook' voters into re-electing Trump....

But the story I have referenced in the OP (and there are many others that have come forth AFTER the election, too) say the same things. This story has greater credibility because Tom Homan was actually an acting Director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and it is not a 'holdover' story from last October... no, it is dated TODAY, December 31, 2020.

Happy New Year.... Soon we'll have Biden in the Oval Office and his immigration policy, whatever that really turns out to be.... Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.

Even Trump admitted the problem during his term was worse than ever before.

 

I'll probably drive down there and give a cold brew to each new arrival.

 

That was in his first 2 years. By the end of his first term Trump said that dropped by 80%. The wall played a part in that I'm sure.

'Comrade' Obama completely looked the other way when SWARMS of tens of thousands of them came barging into the United States illegally, on foot, on buses, on top of trains, and every other way imaginable in 2014.

Now -- ol' Joe has promised to be the most 'progressive' president in history... so, that necessarily means he will saddle us with an "Obama 2.0" immigration policy, which can't mean anything other than an ever MORE 'open door' policy....

. "Asilo, asilo!" (Asylum, asylum!) the magic word....

 

If Trump said it, it is almost certainly a lie.

 

I don't know. Trump swore the situation on his watch was "worse than ever before", which means it was worse than in the 1980s when we had up to .6 million people per year coming in.

If Biden is Obama 2.0, then the illegal population will decrease, as it did under Obama.

The truth:

 

There's over 7 billion people on the planet. About half of them fall under the new definition
of 'refugees.' About 50% of all young Arabs want to emigrate to the West. That figure would
hold for norther Africa, Eastern Europe and most of Asia and South America.
We need to find place for 3 billion people somewhere in America. We can do it, it's a big land.
Sure, many will want to live in cities, but these can expand. If every household billeted one
family for say ten years then we have taken care of 130 million families. We can set up tent
cities too. I love the idea of open borders, even if people will still say America is 'racist.'

 

Definition of refugee = a person who has been forced to leave their country in order to escape war, persecution, or natural disaster.

So, no, half the worlds population are not refugees.

 

I would expect you not to believe anything unless CNN says it.

 

But... (I am speaking as an Australian) we get people from Iran, Sri Lanka (post war)
Vietnam, China etc who come here as 'refugees.' Even the Afghans laugh when I ask
about their 'refugee' experience - many of them go home for holidays, and plan to
sponsor more compatriots and family members to join them.
Are Mexican's facing persecution or war? What wars are going on in South America?

 

Uh, what? I remember reading several times that Obama deported more illegals than all his predecessors combined.
This said, I do worry about this asylum situation... seems to be the new codeword for letting in economic migrants.

Trump lies. A LOT. That is a fact.

 

Truth? Trump damaged his credibility considerably when he decreed in the 2016 campaign that Mexico would pay for 'the Wall'! Even we among Right-wing Conservatives cannot gloss this over, or ignore it. He said Mexico would PAY, and, to this day, Mexico has not paid even a single peso!

Later, after being elected, Trump rationalized his declaration by suggesting that his new trade arrangement, the "USMCA", would pay for the Wall "many times over" after replacing NAFTA. It remains to be seen if that's a fact -- but it is certainly impossible, especially now that it is very clear that Biden said that he will not build “another foot” of the wall, which still has hundreds of miles to go, as originally conceived.

More truth? Trump should have declared a total moratorium on all immigration for an initial period of five years, with exceptions being made ONLY for those who bring critically-needed skills with them, or, who meet the genuine, authentic requirements for asylum. The 'Green Card' program should have been expedited to bring other laborers IN, and then get them OUT when their work was completed!

But, there would have been big problems even if he had declared a moratorium on immigration instead of trying to build a 'Wall'. Who would we Americans get to put roofs on our houses? Who would work on the farms and ranches? Who would we Americans get to do any kind of manual labor, skillfully and quickly? American-born Millennials and 'Gen Z-er's'? SERIOUSLY?!

It's a big, complex enigma that has been building in this country since the beginning of WORLD WAR II, actually... when we needed lots of manual laborers while male citizens went off to war, or to work in war production. And although the war ended, cheap, dependable labor became very popular, with both Republicans and Democrats. So -- here we are 75 years later, with one hell of a big mess on our hands.... We'll see what ol' Joe plans to do now, in less than three weeks!
