(CNN)Director of National Intelligence James Clapper told the House Select Committee on Intelligence Thursday he had submitted his letter of resignation on Wednesday night. "(I) submitted my letter of resignation last night, which felt pretty good," he said before the panel of lawmakers, in response to the top Democrat on the panel joking he hoped he would stick around for another four years.

"I have 64 days left and I'd have a pretty hard time with my wife going past that," Clapper told California Rep. Adam Schiff, who also paid his respects to Clapper's service as the hearing opened.

I guess that means he's going to have to be replaced. Can't say I will miss him...in fact, just the opposite. It's anybody's guess who will replace him. Have a nice life Jimmy.

Hopefully he is the first of many that step away, let the swamp start draining itself for awhile...

Why didn't you post this part of the article:

Clapper has said that in over 50 years of military and intelligence work, he has never seen the breadth of challenges facing the US as he does today.

"Our nation is facing the most diverse array of threats that I've seen," he told the committee Thursday.

At the hearing, Clapper was asked which threats will be of most concern to the US in the next 5-10 years.

"I'm hesitant to pick one," he said. Clapper listed the challenges posed by nation states like Russia, China, North Korea and Iran, as well as transnational threats like terrorism, the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, "which is personally a growing concern for me," he said, and "the challenges posed in the cyber dimension."

Clapper also said that preventing attacks like the June attack on the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida, was among the issues that concern him.

"I will leave this job concerned about the impact of so-called lone wolves and home grown violent extremism," Clapper said. "That is a very complex problem."

Why would they have included that?

Anyway does this mean we get to go after him for lying under oath to Congress? Probably not.

Its standard practice for almost all top appointees to resign with a new administration.

He should have been summarily fired a long time ago and now finally ad the law requires there will be a full investigation into the security breach committed by Clinton and her staff.

Exactly. In some cases the swamp is self draining. Clapper was a useful tool and a good stooge.

I'm sure he will; after all he's got a good government pension to live off of. :)

The guy lied to Congress and the American Public and did not get penalized in any manner. I'm shocked you could support the man.

That and the under the table graft that comes with helping to procure government contracts.

I have no knowledge of that so I cannot really comment on that. Since he's not been arrested nor convicted of any crimes that I'm aware of I have to discount your implied allegation.

I would expect no less. Still, the fact that graft exists as a common practice in government employment, suggests a far deepened vein of fragmented morality; "It's OK to steal from the government."

Trump has pledged to drain the swamp of corruption that has been commonplace in Washington for over a Century. That would save trillions in taxpayer money. I am all for it!
