On reflection, you may be right. Trump is being given more attention. Not because of any respect or admiration for the man, but because the Japanese are smart enough to realise that he is a thin-skinned egocentric narcissist who responds well to empty flattery.

I originally thought that any president would be treated the same as Trump. As a result of your post, I realised that his ego is being stroked.

He loves that kind of attention. Any other president during my lifetime would have been intelligent (and self-aware) enough to disregard or even disdain such transparent flattery, and the Japanese would not think it necessary to try. But Trump, the egocentric narcissist, laps it up.
