    The email chain released by the president’s son shows an intent to collude with Russia, veteran prosecutors and white-collar defense attorneys say.

    The smoking gun, according to the attorneys, is the wording throughout the emails that Trump Jr. exchanges with a broker for one of his father’s former Russian business partners. At one point, Trump Jr. responds “love it” at the prospect of material that would “incriminate” Clinton. In addition, the source of the material says the offer of the material is “part of Russia and its government’s support for Mr. Trump.”

    “Extremely damaging,” said former Justice Department prosecutor Peter Zeidenberg. “Certainly shows an intent to collude with Russian government.”

    Samuel Buell, a former federal prosecutor who worked with one of Mueller’s top deputies prosecuting Enron executives in the early 2000s, said the email chain "is very significant legally as it at least opens up the question of illegal campaign benefits from Russian sources, and the email is quite strong evidence of DJT Jr's intent toward Russia."

    Collusion is only a crime in anti--trust cases. Without Obama's Justice Department inventing new crimes piecemeal of a line of code here and a line of code there, still got nothing.

    Legally, what matters most next is what Trump campaign officials and others pulled into the probe say under oath to Congress or Mueller — and where perjury and making false statements carry legal consequences that don’t exist when engaging with reporters or on social media.

    “We are now beyond obstruction of justice in terms of what’s being investigated,” Clinton’s 2016 running mate, Sen. Tim Kaine, told reporters on Tuesday. “This is moving into perjury, false statements and even potentially treason.”

    Justice Department Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigators plan to examine the meeting and email exchanges disclosed by Donald Trump Jr. as part of the broader Russian-meddling investigation, according to a US official briefed on the matter.

    On Tuesday, President Donald Trump's eldest son, Trump Jr., released an email chain showing that he agreed to meet with someone he believed to be a "Russian government attorney" last summer after receiving an email offering him "very high level and sensitive information" that would "incriminate" Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

    I don't subscribe to Wapo and your article is behind a paywall.

    Yes, it's bad. When there is an ongoing investigation, you never, ever want to give the investigation any ammunition. That's what this is.

    And it is a huge distraction. Maybe you didn't notice, but the Republicans are trying to pass a healthcare law. You should realize that this story today does not help them. At all.

    How do you connect the woman with Putin without using six degrees of separation? If there is not an unbroken chain of custody (information wise) then how can we know that Putin was pilling the strings behind the scenes?

    Didn't everyone (myself included) assume what went on in that airplane on the tarmac between Bill Clinton and Loretta Lynch? I assumed nothing good there. I assume nothing good here.

    I guess that's called "not being a hypocrite".

    I don't think that woman was connected with Putin. She had no government secrets to share. Don Junior was trolled, and fell for it. That's an unfortunate unforced error on his part.

    But he did put things in an email that are damaging. Intent to collude when your father's campaign is under investigation is not a good thing by any stretch of the imagination.
