A New York judge on Friday handed Donald J. Trump a crushing defeat in his civil fraud case, finding the former president liable for conspiring to manipulate his net worth and ordering him to pay a penalty of $355 million that could wipe out his entire stockpile of cash.

The decision by Justice Arthur F. Engoron caps a chaotic, yearslong case in which New York’s attorney general put Mr. Trump’s fantastical claims of wealth on trial. With no jury, the power was in Justice Engoron’s hands alone, and he came down hard: The judge delivered a sweeping array of punishments that threatens the former president’s business empire as he simultaneously contends with four criminal prosecutions and seeks to regain the White House.

Not only did Justice Engoron impose a three-year ban preventing Mr. Trump from serving in top roles at any New York company, including his own, but the judge also applied that punishment to the former president’s adult sons for two years and ordered that they pay more than $4 million each. One of the sons, Eric Trump, is the Trump Organization’s de facto chief executive, and the ruling throws into doubt whether any member of the family can run the business in the near term.

Down comes the hammer. Followed by the inevitable howls of indignation..........and appeal. I love the ruling. It's very deserving.

Do you think Don will have Engoron hung if he is re-elected?

Eric needs to polish up that resume. But then who would hire a dolt who is part of a crime family?

Nah I'm sure Engoron will be able to explain to the appeals court why he based the real market value of the property on a tax assessment for the business, in a private loan deal that was fine with the lender.

I hope Trump's lawyers use worthless talking points like that in their appeal.

Of course they will, his supporters love to think he should be above the law, just like elitists do, while simultaneously thinking that voting for him is a vote against elitism. And who among them can resist his siren victim song.

His supporters also apparently have a keener sense of tax and business laws in new york than Engoron.

Ah yes. Silly talking points like the state wasn't even involved in the loan, the loan was paid back, and the lender assessed the value or accepted the submitted value of the property as valid. Who was it he committed fraud against again, I can't remember.

    Leftists are hilarious.

Why? Because his supporters are completely fine with criminals as long as they share the same ideology. He was 100% correct when he said he could shoot someone on 5th avenue and not lose a single supporter. He knows he can commit any crime as long as he shares same beliefs as his supporters.

    Here's something that's hilarious.

The judge also ordered Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr., who took over the Trump Organization after their father became president in 2017, to pay fines of more than $4 million each.

Eric and Trump Jr. also face two-year bans from serving as officers or directors of any New York corporation or legal entity.

Co-defendants Allen Weisselberg, the Trump Organization’s former chief financial officer, and the company’s comptroller, Jeffrey McConney, are permanently banned from controlling the finances of a New York business, Engoron ruled.

Time to get your checkbook out. Don's appeal won't be cheap.

Are you opening your checkbook to help him pay the fine? It's for a good cause. After all, the survival of the US is at stake, right?

The survival of the US is at stake is the leftist argument, not mine.

Either way, leftists are going to wipe themselves out.

That would be wrong, but it would probably give his approval numbers another boost.
BTW, "hung" is wrong -- "hanged" is correct -- but is still not right. ;-)

Well…Trump is for law and order so he should be happy he was held accountable. As are his followers so they too should be happy Trump was held accountable. Oh wait…something about double standard. Never mind

Outrageous for a tort with no victim. Pure political hit job. Effective for sure, however.

Nobody was defrauded. The issue was that Trump overvalued property in order to secure loans which have already been repaid. No victim. I guess New York needs the money.
